how does this compare with the canon a75 in terms of imagu quality and manual controls?

In term of image quality, the c-725 can easily beat the canon a75, not only because it has a SLR like performance but also for the ultra 8X optical zoom. The only draw back is the c-725 uses XD memory, which is a bit more expensive than any other flash memory cards in the market today. But you certainly can't go wrong for this incredible low price.

Yes. I really like the 8X optical zoom and while i'd rather it be 4 MP, it's hard to argue with this price. The only other turn off is the XD memory as picpop mentioned.

MC has some very vey cheap rechargeable batteries...like $3 a pack.

The only difference I've seen is that the 725 uses the XD card and comes with 4 AA batteries instead of the Olympus 3 volt batteries the 720 came with. I work part time at Office Max and have sold several of each.
