OK, not sure if this constitutes a "hot deal", but I thought it was pretty good. If you buy a Olympus C-700UZ digital camera from 800.com you get a $75 gift check to perchase anything from their online store. Also if you buy an Olympus brand SmartMedia card (can be on seperate order 8,16,32 MB), you can get a $50 rebate direct from olympus:

http://a384.g.akamai.net/7/384/1468/561b59989a85d2/www.olympusamerica.com/files/UZ_coupon.pdf

offer good until Sept 30th.

The camera at 800.com is at:
http://www.800.com/prod.asp?p=5156

800.com gift check offer info at:
http://www.800.com/promo/gc.asp?

So here's what I was thinking:

Buy the Olypmus C-700UZ from 800.COM, your gift check should arrive within a couple of weeks. Use it and buy a Olympus brand smart media card. If you don't like the price, then stick with the cheap 8MB Olympus card, but it must be Olympus. Then subit the recept and UPC's for the $50 rebate from Olympus. That's about $125 worth of free suff + Cash, for you. The price for the C-700 UZ from 800.com is about average ($599). But the free stuff and cash may be worth it. I have seen the camera priced as low as $489, but its not from 800.com and you don't get the $75 gift check, plus you would have to shell out more money for the memory card before getting the $50 back from Olympus.

I know there are a lot of steps, but I heard the camera is absolutely awesome with a 10X optical (not digital)zoom. Like I said not sure if it's a hot deal, but if your in the market, it sounds good.

Oh yeah and shipping is free.
No Tax, and -$29.99 possible from Ebates

Another deal would be to get this from Photoalley.com for $599.95. Add 32MB Olympus SmartMedia to use the Olympus rebate. There is a $100 instant discount and free Fedex overnight shipping. Grand total $549.90.
Click through Ebates to get to Photoalley and you get a 4% rebate ($22).

So grand total:

$599.95 for camera
+ 49.95 for 32MB Olympus SmartMedia
-100.00 instant discount
- 49.95 Olympus Smartmedia Rebate
- 22.00 ebates rebate
-------
$477.95

If you don't need the SmartMedia and don't want to bother with the SmartMedia rebate, you can use AA batteries for $1.98 to get the instant discount and still get the camera for $481.85 (after $20.08 Ebates rebate).

Photoalley discount is only for today.

Also, the Olympus rebate is for *UP TO* $50 rebate, it is NOT a $50 rebate. So if you buy an 8MB card for $19.95, you only get a $19.95 rebate from Olympus.

Just wanted to break the deal down:

Camera $599.99
Ebates -$29.99
Olympus Rebate -$50.00
Shipping = $0.00 for a limited time only
Tax = $0.00 None unless you live in Oregon and even that I think you still have none.

Total Cash out of Pocket = $520

Gift Check = $75
Olympus Memory Card 8Meg (to qualify for $50 rebate) = $20

Total Gift check left= $55
This you can use on anything else (batteries, charger, whatever....)
====================================
Total value you spend = $520

The deal isn't in the price of the camera, its the extras you can get with it ($75 worth of extras) along with the $79 you save off of the price of the Camera. I still think its a good deal.

Just in case no one caught this earlier:

<< the Olympus rebate is for *UP TO* $50 rebate, it is NOT a $50 rebate. So if you buy an 8MB card for $19.95, you only get a $19.95 rebate from Olympus. >>

the olympus SM cards let you do panaramic mode too, just in case no one knew.

By faster lens, i meant a wider apeture, like up to 1.8 :) That would prolly cost a bundle tho... for a quality job.

Oops, did't see the "up to" $50 rebate. Still the difference between this deal and the Photoalley deal is about $30. I still think it's a good trade for an extra $30 you get about $75 worth of free stuff from 800.com

Well, it depends on which you'd rather have... $75 in store credit to use at 800.com or $100 cash to use anywhere you want. :)

At ritzcamera.com you get a free set of rechargable batteries and charger as well. Price guarantee, warrantee. Etc. Plus they have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee where if for any reason you don't like the product you can return it them for a full refund or even exchange it in one of the ritz camera stores.

Uh, I hate to break this to you Splat, but your $100 cash isn't quite $100 cash after Tax and shipping. You end up only getting about $30 cash for Cali residence. 800.com does not charge tax or shipping. (599.99(camera) + 49.99(smartmedia)- $100 = $549.98 tax would be another $39)

For PhotoAlley
+599.99 Camera
+49.99 Smartmedia
+%7.5 Cali Sales Tax = 49.00
+ shipping 6.95
- 5% Ebates (before tax)=32.50
- 49.99 Olympus rebate
- 100 instant cash back

Total = 523.44

I think your price break down is a little misleading

with 800.com
you don't use your money to buy the 32MB smart media card, you use the $75 gift check that they give you (think out of the box my friend. Olympus does not requre that both camera and card are bought on the same order). So the total for the 800.COM deal still is about

$520.01 after $49.99 rebate from olympus. And you have another $25 left from your gift check for what ever you want.

Summary(for Cali residence)

PhotoAlley deal = $523
800.com deal = $520.01 and you get $25 left to spend from your gift check.

nuff said.

2 day Fedex is free at PhotoAlley.com with the sale they have (just switch it from $6.95 UPS to the $0.00 2 day Fedex option). I didn't get charged tax in Illinois. Sometimes it sucks to live in CA!

edit: oh yeah, I got the 3.1 MegaPixel Kodak DC4800 w/ a four pack of AA batteries for $601 - $100 sale (+ free shipping), - $100 kodak rebate, - $25 ebates.com 4% off = ~ $376. I'm *not* saying this is a better camera, just sharing another deal there...

Photoalley charges no sales tax for me in MO, so I guess it's a good deal for non CA,UT, and NJ residents.

Also, change shipping to Fedex Overnight and it's free!

My... I'm really tempted especially by Photoalley.com deal. So bad it's only today. This unit is the one I've been waiting for. Compact Olympus with 10x Zoom!!

I've used several digicams including fuji, kodak, olympus from sub-mega era, but still using 2M-pixel Olympus C-2020. 3M would be great, but it seems there's not so much difference bet'n 2M and 3M (1.5 more pixels -> sqrt(1.5) increase in dimension). By the way, 10x is way up!

If you read Steves Digicams Review, there are several pros and cons you must know, comparing to other cameras

PROS:
1. 10x Optical Zoom!!
2. compact size (among >3x digicams)
3. the most affordable among 10x
4. finally! Internal MIC that records captions for each picture, OR record the sound during Quick Time video record
5. fast USB (one of the fastest, storage-class device -> NO OTHER DRIVER NEEDED on newer OS')
6. seamless zoom up to 27x (including digital)
7. improved menu, custom shortcuts

CONS:
1. DARN..... no remote (What are they thinking!)
2. no rechargeables (C-20XX comes with 4x1600mAh NiMH with 4-seperate-circuit quick charger)
3. no zoom during QuickTime video recording. (oh my.... why?? even my old c-2000 could do that)
4. view finder is also very tiny LCD, meaning that it also consumes the power even you shut down back 1.5" LCD. (from
Imaging Resource Review)
5. using custom flash sync connector (and the external flash is almost half price of the unit)
6. smartmedia (oh well... depends on what you are currently using)

Now only 1 hour to decide... I'm beginning to hate deal forum! :)
One more thing making me hasitate is that Olympus usually keep doing UPGRADE. (like C-2000 -> C-2020 -> C-2040) So, it might be wise to wait for the second generation of this machine. (C-2000 -> C-2020 was major improvement!) C-720 or C-740 maybe? :)

THANKs for the deals anyway.

PS: The recharger (DPS2000) that Photoalley sells is very similar to new original Olympus accessory charger. It seems it's OEM.
