Chinese vaulter who takes a knee landing and still wins
The uneven bars tiebreaking schill (USA takes silver with same score)
Whatever the rules I kinda think same score should = same medal.
Yeah, Im trying not be biased and obviously I know little about gymnastics scoring but it seems odd to me that a gymnast who falls flat on her shins wins over someone who landed both of her vaults
Did she have a much higher starting difficulty? That makes a world of difference.
KT
Nope
Edit: they were more difficult but not to the point where not being able land properly would make it better than doing the easier vault.
Wrong. Unfortunately. Here's a breakdown of the scores for Cheng Fei (Chinese bronze medalist who knee-planted) and Alicia Sacramone (American who got 4th place):
Cheng Fei, China
First vault score: 16.075 (6.5 difficulty, 9.575 execution)
Second vault score: 15.050 (6.5 difficulty, 8.55 execution)
Average score: 15.562
Alicia Sacramone, United States
First vault score: 15.750 (6.3 difficulty, 9.45 execution)
Second vault score: 15.325 (5.8 difficulty, 9.737 execution)
Average score: 15.537
Alicia Sacramone missed out on nearly half a point (once the scores were averaged out) based on her difficulty scores alone. Her execution on both was very good though. It was really that low 5.8 difficulty second vault that killed her. Had she gone with a 6.0 for it, she would have just barely gotten the bronze.
