Damn it, why England? And why does NY have to choke like that, I thought we had it in the bag a couple weeks ago.

The triumph of perfidious Albion.

Chirac sucks.

With French economic problems, the debate over the farming subsidies, lack of popular support for Chirac and now the kick in the teeth of not getting the Olympics, Chirac is sitting on top of a dung heap.

Yeah but you know the French, they'll blame the US for it!;)

Would you really want that many extra people in NY, especially for rush hour?

Uh...it was shot down last month, they're fixing up Shea instead (regardless of the loss of the Olympics).

NYC got pwned. We had no chance of getting it hosted here. Glad to see it went to London. We don't need anymore traffice here.

You were never close. Perhaps some of the promoters tried to make it sound like you had a chance, but were really never in contention.

Bummer. I had an interest in attending the games if it was in NY. At least it isn't France. ;)

blame stupid ny politicians for fighting against the west side stadium for no obvious reason. why would the IOC give the olympics to a city who at the last month finally decided to kill the west side stadium and as a last resort threw up a plan for shea stadium.

i think the new shea stadium is still happening, so the mets will get a new home, just that it wont get converted to a olympic stadium and they dont have to share with the yankees in 2011.

NYC never really had a chance anyway. The IOC would almost surely hold off giving another olympics to the US. In the last 30 years the olympics have been in Lake Placid, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Salt Lake City. The 1976 games had been awarded to Denver, but they turned them down in 1972. So that's a combined total of 5 games awarded to the US over a 30 yr period, so to give another to the americans would be almost a certain no go. Of course between the SLC and what would have been the NYC games there would have been a 10 year gap.
