I can't believe I typed OLED in the search and found notta.....so I ask all you fellow technophiles...

Anybody have any good links to upcoming OLED PC screens? I'm really drooling at the capabilities and just wondering if the wait is almost over.

I don't think there are any full-sized consumer OLED screens out there. They're pretty much still in development I think, and in handhelds. I think next year they might start coming out in full force at medium sizes (the main issue I heard was the difficulty in producing a larger size).

Though in Maximum PC it showed an image of a sample 17 or 19 inch monitor that was in development.

I saw a model of a Samsung 25-30" AMOLED I think it was, but I don't recall where. The main issues they have to work out now are lifetime of the colors, notably blue, which just recently hit about 100K+ hours (the lifetime of most LCD backlight CCFLs). They are available in a couple MP3 players and also other more expensive products like special 3D glasses. The biggest OLEDs they can mass produce now are around 4" I believe. For now though couldn't they just stick 8 4" (diag) screens together and get 32"? I'd be happy with 5x 4" OLEDs to get a 20" screen.

As for the price? Well who cares? If it's superior to every tech out there, I'd buy a 20" OLED array or something until they can mass produce a single 20" OLED. People buy the Dell 20" screens for $800...I think an OLED would be worth $2000. The only draw back with OLEDs is they still have to operate at one resolution. But that can easily be overcome with Windows Vista's vector-based rendering system. There's no reason we can't make 1024x768 look half-decent on a 1280x1024 display by now (having been fed vectors). One more problem with the OLEDs is oxygen cannot be let in or the organic fibers will die. They can overcome this with tight sealing though.

You gotta stop smokin the mary jane xtkight.

That would barely give you a 6.5" screen.

for a 20" widescreen, the dimensions are 23.1" x 13"
