Howdy :)

I was thinking of upgrading my old Compaq 5030 Slot 1 P2-300 system to a faster processor and was wondering if anyone has any experience with this. It's on a MBoard with an LX Processor, running at 66Mhz bus, and Compaq so far has been stingy with any more info on it. I was wondering if anyone knew what speed Celeron could work in there. Thanks.

See if there is a BIOS update available for your system.

It may be able to support a PPGA Celeron 533 as the fastest processor.

First thing you might want to do is get it on a better motherboard than what you have there.........at least 100 FSB and then the list starts spreading out from there....like a new case,ram.....etc...etc....etc

Most of the time, upgrading to a new motherboard and cpu would be my suggestion but you may be able to squeeze life out of that old system...

No mention of maximum speeds in the manual then?

I am soon to be upgrading a friends pc, which is a Digital PC (prev part of Compaq), his LX board currently has a P2 266 but can go up to celeron or P3 @ 500mhz.

Without knowing the exact name on your model for sure, I couldn't find much, have a look at these:
