OLDER GAMES CRASH ON A64'S???

I know you can get problems when overclocking with games, but i have had problems with games when not oc'ed like tombraider 4 last revelation crashes instantly and ravenshield still crash's so could it just be their programming??? because ive had other people test these games and they crash on the a64's too.. so i was wondering if anyone else had trouble with older versioned games..... tomb raider 4 wont work but so far i was running deus ex completely fine at 2.5 no crash's... but tomb raider would crash at stock so any suggestions?

I dont think the cpu is the issue, but likely the new set of video drivers....Were you all using the same drivers and same type of cards???

I can't see how a cpu would be picky on old video games

Hey I noticed when I installed DX9 games and tried to run they would crash...turned out to be my Zone alarm suite w/ antivirus software. Got rid of and now run another firewall proggie and no issues. Software quirks are common...

i dont know if its a driver issues because i havent tried to go back and try different ones.. but like deus ex works fine.. but tombraider instantly crashes... i think that and ravenshield are only games that arent working.. cs:s hl2 cs cz wolfenstein halo far cry all work perfectly fine no crash's i have i think 66.72 drivers for my card.. but i havent tried these games on my moms intel so i think ill try that.. than i can start to eliminate possibilities..

Are you using 32-bit or 64-bit windows? Some of the game copy protections don't work in 64-bit mode.

Also, some old games require that you disable DEP for them (put the game's exe in the exception list under the DEP section of the performance tab in the system control panel.)

I have had problems running older games with nVidia 60.+ series drivers.

The newer Catalysts don't seem to exhibit the same incompatibility for me.

Now that's a new one!

I have no tried those things but i will try the combatibility mode and I will also try that dep thing, thanks ill let you know how it goes

I also notice in your sig the 6800gt "ultra speeds" Tried the video card at stock speed ? and the 66.97 drivers work best for me.

tried the video card at stock speeds already.. seems to not be the problem there... if i have time tonight ill try the different drivers i think i have 66.93 drivers installed right now so i dont think its a driver issues either.. if anyone has tombraider 4 id appreciate it if u test it for me and let me know... that and ravenshield are only 2 games that crash.. and they both seem to be game related not my cpu.

aight make sure its the 4th one "last revelation" or something.. just to let everyone know i tried it even at stock speeds and it still crashed... so that doesnt seem like it would be my computer.. im wondering if its another software problem thanks

And it works fine for me on my Abit AV8, Athlon64 3200+, evga 6800GT.

Ouch!

I had a similar problem with UT2004. Your problem may also be with the Nvidia drivers causing problems.
Follow this link to a possible fix. It worked for me, I updated to the 67.03 drivers and changed the statement they mention in the boot.ini file.

Good luck,

I was just overclocking tonight so i didnt have any time to reinstall tombraider for being that im now exhausted after tweaking for awhile.. im currently at 260 1:1 at 3htt and 2.602 i believe... a 3200 also... so hopefully it stays stable ill have to see.. i have memory at like 2.8 i gotta go read up now to check the recommended but anyway.. i have to still try that combatibility mode and i also have to try a different driver set.. someone else said turn off dep or something? or put it in dep ill read what they wrote later.. but thanks for the help... hopefully someone can help me with ravenshield next once i figure this out..

See that small little emoticon? In general, it tends to show sarcasim to the people who cant see it. Just thought I would help you out there. Next time, it will be $20.
