Older Dell Ultrasharp..Why so expensive?

I'm considering getting a 24 inch Dell Ultrasharp . I see a recent price for new 2410 at 400.00. Then I see some high prices for 4 to 6 year old ones for 250.00 - 350.00.

What's the deal with these older ones commanding such a high price? Is there something great about them?

The newer Dell ultrasharp's use LED backlighting which reduces energy expenditure at the cost of potential bleed-through around the peripheral of the screen and while LED backlighting can provide for more vibrant colors, it does so at the potential cost of complete trueness throughout the screen.

Older Dell ultrasharp IPS monitors had CCFL backlighting, which consumes more energy but also uniformly lights the screen, causing colors to remain more true from the peripheral of the screen to the center of the screen.

In most cases, unless you're a photographer or a legitimate graphic designer (you know what I mean), these features won't outweigh the benefit of reduced energy consumption and market proliferation presently offered by LED-backlit screens.

Having used both personally, while I can recognize the benefit of the older CCFL backlighting, the LED-backlit ultrasharps are relatively indistinguishable from the CCFL models when it comes to daily browsing and gaming.

Yeah, I know about the CCFL lighting and colors, I just did not know that people would pay that much of a premium to get a 4 to 6 year old one. I would think with a old monitor you might get a reduced performance anyway. There have been some real nice improvements in LCD technology recently. Thanks

They still carry a decent price because of the saturation of LED monitors on the market. There's still a fair contingent of people looking for CCFL backlit monitors and with there being fewer on the market than a couple of years ago, they are coming with a slight premium these days.

Regarding the Dell's, their ultrasharp IPS monitors from 2 years ago were their most recent CCFL models and despite the display tech being refined, they still provide a comparable image.

The Dell U2410 still has a CCFL, they call it a Wide Color Gamut CCFL. If one can get a new one of those for 400.00, on a good sale that is, I would prefer that over a 4 year old ultrasharp that costs 300.00 to 350.00
