The fight to win the votes of Black people in the U.S. continues.

Early voting patterns have one political pundit concluding that older Black voters are turning out in higher numbers than they did in 2016. This may bode well for Democrats who are the traditional beneficiaries of a high Black voter turnout.

While it’s obviously way too early to be making any real concrete predictions like that, Tom Bonier, the CEO of TargetSmart, has been tweeting out a nonstop stream of data associated with the early voting period currently underway that give a glimpse of certain trends among folks casting ballots; and where they’re casting those ballots.

According to Bonier, who is also an adjunct lecturer at Howard University, “black voters over the age of 65 have already exceeded their overall 2016 turnout numbers, thereby already setting turnout records” in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Nevada and Texas. Those numbers are expected to keep growing as early voting continues through Monday.

The Bonier quotes are from a NewsOne story:

If only middle aged white guys would get their shit together.

Don't hold your breath.. they're the same age of peeps that voted in Reagan and started dismantling our health care system...

When several young Black males signaled their intention to vote for Trump this year, I knew the Dems had better nominate someone other than old White men from now on.

I like Joe Biden a lot. He showed me he has a lot of energy and has little problem displaying his righteous anger of his exquisite happiness as he did when the ACA was passed. "This is a big f**king deal!"

So, Sunburn, this old retired news editor and adjunct professor can only hope for the best.

I am reminded of the late Michigan Gov. George Romney (Mitt's Dad), who marched for Civil Rights. He would have been a much better President than the guy who eventually won the GOP nomination and the White House in 1968: Tricky Dick.

If Trump wins, I might actually start drinking. But not in celebration.

Fun fact—Trump is doing better with black and Latino voters in 2020 than he did in 2016. Not likely enough to get him elected, but it’s a fact.

I am totally mystified by the levels of support for Trump from younger black voters and especially the Latino vote. Hopefully, turnout will be high enough in other demographics to counteract this.

Low information voters that are more easily persuaded by propaganda. For example, right wing messaging to Latinos is that Biden is leading us down the road of socialism that went bad in some Latino countries. They basically tell them that Biden equals the next Venezuela. It's too much critical thinking apparently to look at Canada and some of Europe as models for countries that implement policies that go along with capitalism to provide social services and do so successfully. Also a lot of the Latino community is religious and thus socially conservative.

How ironic it would be if Trump rides on a wave of black ("Fine people those white supremacists!!") and latino support ("Mexican rapists, druggies!!!!") to another term. :(

If he wins, it'll be because of the USPS fuckery.

It's a bit more Hispanic than Black. And for both, the shift is almost entirely among male voters of color.

Trump's persona and messaging have an appeal to certain men which may cross the racial divide to some extent. It's the tough guy, strong man, law and order schtick. Some guys buy it, apparently.

Those rationales should have been applicable in 2016, and therefore don't explain the shift. When you look at the numbers - like I said above - it's black and Hispanic males, not females, who have shifted toward Trump to some degree. Meaning that whatever it is, it has to do with gender more than race.

Those people are right-wing authoritarians. Men, women, minorities...anyone can be one.

Personally, I think many Trump voters who are male are imagining themselves in spiffy uniforms and armed with batons to smash people they never respected.

If Trump wins, Stephen Miller will have a field day as his ICE agents round up anyone he targets.

Winning political coalitions are often unique and it seems a lot of people fall into the idea that Obama's must be replicated for the Dems to win. Biden's strengths are different than Obama's and it follows that his coalition will be as well.

Back in the primaries I read interviews with older black voters in South Carolina who knew they had to support Biden because he was the most electable (acceptable to a broad swath of white America) candidate in their view. I think their judgement has been validated. Some loss of some black and hispanic support was expected but the tradeoff of bringing white voters into his column en masse would theoretically swamp that shift.

"What they are supposed to do". Vote Democrat according to you. The fact that so many people think like you is sad. If they vote Republican, then they're traitors, not black, etc. Funny when white Dems tell black people what they are, what they should do, etc. Handler is a perfect example. Let what she said be said by a conservative woman, and the would have been canceled.

But Dems are king of hypocrisy, so its not surprising.

You people are such snowflakes. Chelsea Handler is a comedian who does some edgy comedy, who spoke about that in context of her ex boyfriend 50 cent and then right after suggests sexually she'd go for another shot with 50 cent if he denounced Trump. 50 cent then said Fuck Trump on Twitter. It seems he got the joke. Edgy comedian says something edgy and snowflake Trumpers lose their shit and don't even put it in context. Right wingers always bitch about some lefties who are too oversensitive to some jokes and stuff, and they are right, there are some cancel culture lefties that go overboard in some cases. Turns out the right wingers are just as bad, if not worse.
