I'm still skeptical though, if the managers and the stores say that PMing will invalidate the rebates, I would rather not try it.

Perhaps your case was a lucky exception? I would rather prefer to go with the store policy and what they deem acceptable or not in regardes to PMing and rebates.

So, which begs the question, what exactly is the store policy?

Well, I just picked one up today. My CC was all out..but the customer service lady said they had about 97+ on their way so she sold me one. I'll go in wednesday and pick it up and get my rebate forms. At least now I won't have to fight off customers to get my hands on one of these drives when they arrive later this week!

$40 for this drive is a steal...

If you pricematch you have to get the rebates online. They won't give them to you in store. Just grabbed 2 of these; had a neighbor buy the other. Going to set them up in Raid 0 array.

I went in and picked one up but it only came with a $20 off rebate. They pricemateched to the fry's with no problem, although one of the guys said sometimes they will do it and sometimes not. I am looking more at the drive and this one is in a red packaging instead of the usual colored one, and I am comparing the models and this is the HD1200JR not the WD1200JBRTL. I am wondering if this will work.

That's not the drive that this deal is talking about. The drive you purchased is the house-brand generic 120GB drive, which may well be a WD drive inside the packaging, but is a different SKU entirely than the WD retail 120GB packages, and would surely not be valid for the rebates mentioned in this deal.

Just read the FW thread and at the end they talk about it. It is defineately a WD but different model. I called the CC rebate people and they verified it is different and not subject to the rebate. I guess I get to go for a little drive and see if I can pick it up.

I just stopped in my local CC and they were all out. The salesperson said he could special order one for me and I could pick it up wednesday. Actually I just paid for it today so the sales slip woudl reflect todays date. They can call when it comes in and I will pick it up.
Nice deal for a 120 GB.

Well, I just called the Circuit City Rebate Center @ 1-888-213-9761, spoke to Patrick, and he said as long as the new receipt you get is within the purchase date for the rebate, then you ARE able to get the price match WITH the rebates.

I would encourage everyone to call themself, and verify. I intend to call at least 2 or 3 more times to ensure I don't get shafted on this pwnage of a deal.

EDIT: GOOD NEWS.

So I called Circuit City Rebates a second time, spoke to a CSR named Jeremy who verified that both the PM and the rebates combined were good to go. Not wanting to be shafted, I politely asked to talk to the supervisor and he said basically the same thing, but clarified that as long as there weren't any PRICE requirements (i.e. - purchase X item priced between $50-$100 to get a $20 rebates, or whatever) on the rebate, then PMing w/ the rebates will be no problem at all. The supervisors name is Robert, and he gave me his employee number (1282) without hesitation.

Basically, this is enough evidence for me to go out and get the PM and send in the rebates with greater confidence. Hopefully it's enough for you guys too, but again, feel free to call in yourself. Cheers!

Just wanted to say thanks to mermaidman for posting this! 🙂

I saw this yesterday, had to go downtown anyways, so stopped by CC to check it out. Like MMM, I too got the last drive on the shelf, and also had to have them figure out how to get it to ring up, since the computer showed zero in stock. No problem, I'll wait 5 or ten minutes to get a great deal like this!!

After tax & rebates, this will cost me $49........the same as the 80gb drive is before taxes & after rebate. Half again as much drive for the same price, heck yeah!!

Yeah I've had people in stores tell me they can't do rebates for stuff because of a coupon or price match. They take the rebates from the receipt printer and throw them out. I just print them online 🙂 They say that because they dont like the fact you get too good of a deal, and want to discourage you from sending in the rebates so the company doesn't get too badly shafted. And many people dont send in rebates anyway or forget. In general, unless the rebate itself has a limitation printed on it, they can't stop you. You can always call and say where are my rebates and have a good case to get them.

Yesterday the CC site said no stores in my area had these, now 3 stores have them! They ain't close by, but they have 'em. Now if mine comes in I'll be happy...

Certainly a possibility. Hence why it was a question, and not a statement. Unforunately, too often the case is the former example rather than the latter.

After the first day this was out only the stores way out in the boonies had any. Checked today and all the ones in my area now show it in stock.

I went there and they had 1 on the shelf, but when I went up to the register I find out it is a reserved copy for a special order...so I had to make my own special order, and the drive won't be in till Saturday now... *sigh*...oh well

if this is like most "one rebate per household" requirement you'd need an 'extended family' - someone NOT at your same address.

i guess asking a friend to do this for you wouldN'T constitute any "fraud"

other more 'creative' solutions might be. 😉

Well it is true I did buy my first one from circuit city, but it was a month or two ago, and not the same rebates. The first one I bought was $60 with 2 mail-in-rebates. That wouldn't cause me to not be able to get these rebates would it?
