CC's website shows the Western Digital 120GB hard drive for $120-$80 rebates. B&M only. This is the 8MB cache version.

Are the parallel ATA drives being cleared out in anticipation of SATA?

edit: 2 Circuit City MIR ($30 and $50)
Model WDC WD1200JBRTL
attempt@linky

edit: There is a big thread on this deal at FW, but a lot of stupid posts there. Anyway, I picked up the last one on display in the Charlotte university store. The sales clerk said there were more in the back. Strange thing was, when I went to pay, the register wouldn't allow the sale because it showed zero units in stock. After waiting 10 minutes for the cashier to have it fixed, I finally got the HD. Both rebates printed out at the register. One other thing, the shelf tag did mention both rebates.

edit 5/27: AfroPuff reports that the $50 rebate expired on 5/26. I looked at copies of my rebate forms, which printed out at the register, and they both expire on 5/29. CC's website now shows only a $30 rebate.

edit 8/2: Received $30 rebate last week, but called CCity and was told $50 rebate submission "not found." The phone CSR collected my info and said check will be sent in 4 weeks. We shall see . . .

Thanks, I am building a computer this week and need one of these.
Sure looks like they are clearing out stock and making room for SATA drives, this is even a better deal than the WD 80GB for $50 that I missed at BB last week.

PM to Fry's AD and it will be FAR FREEEEEEeeeee........!

mumble, grumble I hate all you people who have Fry's grumble, mumble

Last week when I was purchasing a router at CC, the manager said that price matching would invalidate the CC rebates. I can't find anything that says that, but it might be something to consider.

Good deal and available locally for me!

Think the best word I could use to describe my feelings for those near a Fry's is "loathe". Perhaps someday a Fry's will exist in the tri-state area.

WHOA! Thanks for the heads-up, this is a phenominal deal.

Rushed over and bought 2 (one for my business). Sales guy didn't know anything about it as it wasn't in the flyer and there were none out on display. Made him go on-line to confirm, he grabbed them from the back and off I went.

Most likely not.

I am wondering if the Fry's ad is restricted to certain area (say bay area) or not. The provided link shows neither source nor date of the ad. It's gonna make PM hard...

actually it does lower right hand corner. Orange County Register 5/21/04. but you might get some circuit city employee that'll say they don't konw what OCR means.

anyhow bay area also has this.

there were only 2 at my circuit city (1 when I left :) ) but the guy that checked me out said they were expecting more, apparantly this is part of their memorial day sale and will be advertised then. the shelves were marked though.. 120's for 39.99 after rebate right beside 80's for 49.99 after rebate. anyway, keep checking throughout the week, they'll likely get some more in before the weekend.

They are decent, but they come. Not as fast as Rebates HQ (e.g. Staples).

Are CC pretty quick/good with their rebates? I've never done a rebate through them.

They are pretty quick. I received my rebate for the 512mb PC2700 ram I sent out a month ago already. This is pretty tempting though, but I don't anymore hard drive space...but for free...hmmm.

edit: out of stock all around me! And I'm in OC too. Crap. Closest place is a 42min drive away. Might be worth it for FREE but I'm too lazy.

Wow. Why does this always happen to me. This happened with the OM DDR deal too. I finally get BestBuy to PM on the last day of the sale, and then the day after the sale is over, CC has it for cheaper AR. I just bought that 160GB Maxtor drive last night, had BB PM Staples. Now CC has a 120GB WD for cheaper $/GB.
(Plus, I personally prefer WD drives. What is the warranty on the WD?) (Edit: One year)

Edit 2: Read some of those reviews of the WD 120GB on CC's site? Not just one, but two, mention the drive overheating and actually catching on fire. Interesting. I've never, ever, seen a HD catch fire in all of my years of computing, which dates back to before the PC era. Did have one 520MB Maxtor let out the "magic smoke" once though.

Folks, my CC is out, but told me to pay today and they'll get one in Wednesday for me from the nearest warehouse which has 1,000 left. Worth the try. If they don't get one, I get my money back. No loss there.

I'll slap this in my external kit which had the burner that died. Once I get my new burner from Newegg I'll have to decide what to do....
