old TV: lost the remote

hello all,

friend of mine has an old Sony Trinitron KV27HSR10, but no remote.

she's using a Sony remote from another old TV that isn't able to access the TV's menu, so she can't set the channels.

isn't there usually a button combination you can press to access the menu?

if there isn't, what universal remote should she try? Will any out there be able to access the menus of old TV's?

not all universal remotes can use all the functions available.

There are some that are seriously awesome.

On the other hand, you could just order another remote from one of many online sites that stock such stuff.

$75 is like 1/3 the cost of a new 27" TV.

Absolutely absurd.

Worst case you buy a learning remote & find someone with the same remote & pay them $5 to send you all the codes.

Don't know if it'll work with yours, but I just got a Phillips universal remote for under $10 at Walmart that worked with my mom's 10+ year old RCA TV.

Actually, you can get a 27" for $160 now, and a flat screen for $230. $75 REALLY isn't worth it to fix an old TV.

Well, $75 is about 1/3 of $230 isn't it? If they have a Sony Trinitron I would assume they would want a flat screen replacement.

No kidding, aren't the Logitech Harmony remotes around that price level? I'd rather spend the money on something like that because at least it's useful for future TVs.

Not all Sony CRTs with Trinitron tubes are flat - my Mom and Dad have one that has a curved tube.
