I already posted this in Motherboards... Sorry for double posting :sneaky:

My friend lent me his touch screen computer that his office threw out. I want to speed it up to make it useable if that is possible.

I don't know much about hardware but I do know some things about the system that I was able to learn from "DXDiag" (I'll post the pictures if i can)

Processor: Intel Pentium, MMX
Windosw 98 (4.10 Build 2222) A
Memory: 64MB RAM (wow right!? It's awsome fast)
Direct X 6.1a
Device Name: Chip and Tech: 69000 PCI (Toshiba) -
(^^)Don't know wtf that means, processor manufacture?
Chiptype F69000 Rev 4

So many questions!

What kind of motherboard/processor chipset is Intel Pentium MMX?
---
Are there better processors that I can use on this motherboard?
--
Can I upgrade the ram? How can I find out?
--
Can I load another operating system onto it? So far it hasn't recognized my external usb hard drive but I haven't tried a usb stick yet. Gotta wait till store opens tomorrow. I was wondering if the touch screen might work better with an ipad simulator if there is such a thing. Probably best to try windows xp or 7 if i can even load them. I would need a lot more ram to run them though, I realize.

I know you guys have better stuff to do than worry about my problems so thanks for your time, I really appreciate your help :)

I'm not sure if that board would support AMD K6-2s, or not, but if it does, they come up to 500MHz.
If it doesn't support K6-2s, you could put a Pentium MMX 233MHz in there, probably.

Also, you could possibly put more RAM in it, but before we can tell you which kind to get, you will need to disassemble it. The RAM sticks should either be 72-pin EDO SIMMs:

or, 168-pin SDRAM DIMMs:

As for the operating system, the newest Windows release you could comfortably run on it (with a K6-2, and =>128MB of RAM) would be Windows 2000. Windows XP might be able to run on it, but I would say that it probably won't run fast enough to be usable for all but the most basic tasks.
