Being lvl11 and having bought no champs yet other than Tristana (thanks Malak), I've been trying to figure out how to play her effectively. I've come to conclude that the item build makes her. Early game, people that seem to know what they are doing aggressively push me back from the minions (preventing my explode and increased shot speed), which hurts my $ and leveling. Late game, Frozen Mallet + Bloodrazers = a pretty decent champ. I can't turn the tide of the battle without a good team, but I contribute my part. As long as I wait for a tank to initiate, and not up against someone like Vlad, Trist seems to be working out well. Starting to get annoyed by players that late game start to essentially suicide as if they can kill 3 enemy champs by themselves.

Tristana needs a solo lane to start off well and against only another solo opponent.

Item build I do, along with many others is this.

First two items are Doran Blade and Health Potion (er Candy Corn right now).

Second item is Doran Blade

Third item is Boots. Boots are converted into Zerker or Merc treads. I personally go with zerker for her because she is squishy and the merc treads add about 0.001 seconds of survivability to her on average. Rather just kill me targets faster.

Sometimes I go for a third Doran, as well as others, or I start building madreds bloodrazer. Some go to infinity edge as fast as possible. Personally I prefer the madreds as I feel it kills faster except against squishies in the early to mid game. Late game the madreds always kills faster.

As for ability order I do this...

W, E, E, Q, E, R, Q, E, Q, E, R, Q, Q, then W and the last R out. Here is why.

Her W is her rocket jump which is basically a magic damage ability. Unless you plan on building an AP tristana, this ability only does OK damage early, and not much at all late game. I use it for escaping and chasing. I almost never initiate with it against a full life hero as it will most likely get you killed. It is best to stay at max range to initiate and pepper your target first. This is why she has the longest auto attack in the game. With Q activated, she can reach insane attack speeds early on for a few seconds. With madreds you can bring down just about anyone FAST.

By getting E up first, you can really wipe out minions waves fast and early on for great pushing. With the doran blades early on for an additional 240 to 360 health, you will be able to hold a lane very well against harassment.

After madreds I like grabbing zeal for more attack speed as well as crit strike and movement. If I have 3 doran blades with boots, zeal, and madreds then I sell off one of the blades to buy a vamp scepter. I then complete the scepter into a blood thirster. From here I can either complete the phantom dancer or tri-force from the zeal. I then can sell off another doran blade for infinity edge or heck even another blood thirster.

If the other team has a Jax I grab a Sword of the Divine. If they have a lot of casters and all their team does mostly magic damage with all having mana bars, then I grab a wit's end. If I'm getting CC'd a lot I grab a veil or quicksilver sash.

On a 5v5 map I typically go with teleport and cleanse for summoner spells. On a 3v3 map I may go with exhaust or ignite instead of teleport. The map is just too small to need teleport for 3v3 and as such it is easier for people to early on get to safety on a tower. Which means an ignite or exhaust to get the kill before that happens helps more.

This is false. You don't really want to lane with someone else who needs farm, but sitting there with a Rammus/Shen/Soraka gives you easy farm and maybe even first blood and great harass via 'e' which hits very hard pre-level 6.

This part is absolutely correct. 'w' as an escape/gank if you're sure of the kill, and 'e' for farm/harass (I actually go e > w > e > q > e etc). Trist is a very strong laner against almost all opponents and if someone gets to close you should autoattack > e > autoattack >(auto more or disengage if they're getting too close) and teach them to fear you. MF and Vlad, and people with stuns are really the only exceptions. Bloodrazor is good but against a less tanky team, it can be better to go straight for a B.F. Sword (turn it into I.E. later) as you really don't have great AS except when 'q' is up (and q takes a lot of mana).

Been practicing duo-lane last hitting for just this reason. Solo q team comps are always carry heavy, so being able to duo-lane effectively (not just mindlessly push as fast and as hard as possible) is key.

Maybe I was a bit to strong in that statement there. She doesn't need to solo lane to start off well, but she does do better starting of solo laning. Actually most heroes that can solo lane do better solo laning.

The main problem with her duo laning usually is she is seen as the big target by the two enemies in her lane otherwise. She becomes primary no matter who on her team she is laning with. People know she is a big late game physical carry and will go after her early on as much as possible. This can be used to your advantage as a smart Trist player however. But beaware that many will try things to stop you.

Oh, and Trist can be CC'd while she is attempting a jump or even in the middle of the jump. I always love using Xin and getting the knockup just as the rocket jump goes off to a trist trying to escape. I lol hard because she moves like a little bit and is already in the air when she gets "knocked up" on her. Basically she goes no where and wasted the mana and has a CD now. Doesn't even slow me when she lands either.

Yeah I noticed that about Trist's rocket jump. I decided to plop down the IP for Nunu. Things are going a lot better now. Within 600IP of having Anivia as well. While I became OK with Trist, I can't say it's my playstyle. Out of the main role types, I have yet to really attempt a pure melee. Master Yi is one I hope is available soon, and probably worth a purchase for me at a measly 450IP.

Well had about 4 games last night. Won 3 and lost 1. So finally a positive evening again. Had a friend for 2 of them to join me which we won both. So of the two solo queue games I was 1 and 1.

The first game of the night though I thought was going to be a bad game from the get go once play started. However at the champ selection screen, I thought the group we had was was decent. I had picked Xin. The rest of my team picks Janna, MF, Lux, and Morde. I'm thinking our picks are pretty good considering we have 1 melee carry, 1 range carry, 1 support, 1 caster/support hybrid, and 1 tank. We go against Garen, Evelynn, Ashe, Morde, and Jax. Besides the Eve, they seemed to have a decent picks as well.

So the game starts, and I start heading top with Janna. MF took mid, and Morde and lux are on bot. However, Janna picks and uses her speed boost power first. So she is flying well ahead of me. By the time I'm reaching the first tower past the base she has already reached the bushes at the top corner on her own. She runs through the bushes and runs into Garen and Eve. She was dead before I got there. The moment she dies both her and MF and Morde start bitching me out over /all channel. Calling me noob for not helping her and being a terrible player to match my name. By the way, since I forgot to mention it, my summoner name is Terrible Guy. So this continues on for a bit. Janna respawns and comes back with the first minion wave. As the minions meet and I and garen are both standing behind our respective waves, Janna runs through the wave and starts beating on garen in close melee range. Ugh! Eve pops out and janna starts running. I wait a split second for them to chase on our side of the minion line before attacking. I start on Eve has she has the lowest life. They are both chasing Janna while I'm beating on them. Janna finally turns to hit a few times before dying and well before the tower. At this point Eve is almost dead but Janna dies. I finish off Eve and start working on Garen. He stands there thinking he can get me before he realizes too late I hadn't used my health pot and my minions are also beating on him. He decides to run but I charge/teleport into him and finish him off. My score is 2/0 and Janna's 0/2. Just then our MF dies in mid to Ashe. I'm thinking.... "Great."

So again both start to bitch me out over their deaths. I stay with the minion wave to get some more exps and last hits as I wait for Janna to come back to the lane. I push near their tower and have reached level 4. Garen and Eve are still 2, while Janna is almost level 2. Garen gets there and Janna does as well. She finally reaches 2 after a couple of minions die and picks her tornado attack. Eve is no where in sight. Janna then starts staying behind the minion line and using the tornado attack. We are still near their tower when Garen decides he has had enough and comes charging for Janna. This time Janna runs from the get go and I start beating on Garen. He ignores me and goes for Janna. Eve pops out and starts beating on me. Janna turns and tornado kites to knock up both Garen and Eve while I'm beating on Garen. I bring him down, and am at half health or so. I turn on eve and she vanishes to run.

So I tell janna I'm recalling to buy items with all the gold from my three kills and minion last hits. I pick up 2 more doran blades, boots, and a pink ward. I teleport back (I picked teleport and flash for summoner spells) and start last hitting minions after dropping a ward in the bush. Garen comes back to the mix. Eve pops out of stealth as Garen charges. Again, I'm closer to garen than Eve so I start beating him him. Janna runs and after a bit so does Garen back to his tower. He was low enough I charge into him to finish the kill and take a couple hits from the tower to bring me to about 300 health. Since I have 3 doran blades and am level 5 now this looks less than what it really is on the health bar visual. But I pop a health potion anyhow. Eve manages to kill Janna and goes into stealth mode. I run over to the bushes where I plopped down the ward because I knew Eve was going to be dumb and come for me. I see her coming and charge and kill her from 3/4's health despite me having only a few bars. Although I had probably as much health as she did starting the fight as she was still only level 4 and had no health items.

So I'm now at 6/0. Janna has died 3 times. MF has died another time to Ashe without a kill in mid. Lux has died twice and Morde has made 3 kills. Score is sort of even, but I'm getting sort of fed. So after a few last more minion hits I head back to base to pick up a recurve bow and madreds razors to complete later into madreds bloodrazors. Eve changes lanes and I decide to do some ganking. I nail ashe and get jax at the bottom. I complete madreds and start some neutral killing. I manage another ashe kill at mid and am basically hoping lanes getting neutral buffs and growing big. I pick up a zeal, and sell off a doran blade for a vamp scepter. I sell off another doran blade for a sword of the divine. Team fights start and every time I show up I'm the focus. I always come in from the side and manage to pop either Eve or Ashe first. Sometimes I get Jax. Morde from the other team keeps trying to nail me with his ult and ignite, but I always run the moment I see it and manage to live. We manage to take the first two towers in mid.

At this point I'm 15/0/6. The next best score on my team is our Morde at 6/3/7. MF finally manages to make some kills and is at 5/5 and I forget her assists. Lux and Janna are still sucking hard for our team. At least 8 deaths a piece. However, I grab morde after we kill off 3 of them in a team fight and head over to baron. Him and I take it down while our other team mates are dead and the two for the other team alive is in lanes defending their towers from minion waves. By the time we come back to mid I and morde do a huge push up the middle while our team comes to catch up. We break the last mid tower and the inhib and manage to kill 3 more of their team. Before we go further, they surrender.

So I end up 18/0/6 for the game. I was like, "So who is the noob now?" The other team all said, "hey that was your team calling you that!" My team still had some derogatory crap to say to me though about being stupid for buying 3 doran blades in the beginning. Idiots.

I did something similar the next game when my friends daughter gets on to play with me. She has been main playing Sona and I am on Xin. We had a couple of really bad players, but at least the other team didn't have any great ones. They weren't bad, but they weren't good enough to shut us down before I could build up my items and finally steam roll them with the help our tank and Sona. Still, that game start off really bad since they had 9 team kills to our 1 before I was level 6. But I manage to farm enough and get our team to play defensive enough without pushing to far to get ganked anymore to finally turn the game around and beat them down.

Next game I was going to play Xin while my friend played Sona, but the other players all picked somewhat squishy chars right away. They grabbed Lux, Jax, and Kogmaw. I was seriously tempted to queue dodge, but decided to mess around. I figure since I won the previous two games, this one we would probably lose. So I picked to play Shen for the first time since we needed a tank. Usually I would go Amumu or Morde, but I wanted to try something different and had a general idea of how to play Shen.

Again the game starts off badly. Sona and I are doing fine on top, but our Jax was an idiot. I ask him why was he doing or had done whatever action he had done point out why that was bad. He apologizes and finally starts to play a little better. We were getting a bit creamed, before we finally manage to start winning in team fights when people on our team stopped being retarded and going off on their own and chasing when they shouldn't. We manage to win the game in the end. I ended up going 6/6/18 with Shen. I didn't think I did bad at all. I liked having his built in teleport and flash/taunt along with the summoner teleport and flash. It gave me tons of maneuverability and map control with him. I was able to save several times the idiots on our team that ran off chasing or solo lane pushing when they shouldn't have been or never noticed the ganks coming. All in all I must say I like Shen a lot.

I would go into some details about the last game, but suffice it to say I had more idiots with my friend's daughter having to go for the night and not playing in it. A crappy Jax, crappy Lux, and a crappy Singed. The Udyr we had was okay, but not really good. Even though I managed to get 14 kills, it wasn't enough in the end. So I called it a night after the loss.

I just don't get how to counter MF effectively. Any game that I'm laning against her is a lesson in suffering, especially if it's in a 2v2 lane paired up with a stun/disabler. I played her a couple of times when she was on free rotation after getting released. I wasn't able to reliably hit the enemies with Double Up, but everyone I play against seems to do it with ease! It's really frustrating because it's either sit behind your creeps and take the DU damage (which hits pretty hard after just 2-3 ranks) or move up/off to the side and be subject to regular harrassment.

I try to stand next to the creep line and keep hitting to keep my life up. Also, if you take the first hit of DU, it is not bad at all. Also, by being mixed in a moving about side to side, there is a good chance the DU goes to a minion instead. The trick is not to stand still for too long on that line either. Otherwise the Make it Rain ability will be the big annoyance. Of course I use Xin, so the moment I see her get close enough when trying to double up I charge into her and beat her down. She is typically very squishy at the beginning since most don't do Doran stacking. The one MF that did, I couldn't stop her in the lane as well.

I like the LoL game stories sometimes, don't read them all tho, esp if they are just too long.
That's why this is a solidified thread, so there's not a million threads created by everyone once they play a bad/good game.

I still only own Nunu and Trist, and finding that playing Nunu is good because no one solo's as a tank. The teams are terribly unbalanced and while Nunu is not the most amazing tank he's better than most of the champs my teammates play as.

Hit lvl12 and Flash was kinda meh for short range. Could be great tho if you cared to use it right, but I'm keeping teleport.

I was used to the blink range in DotA, so I thought flash was kind of underwhelming, but its actually really nice in this game. For the most part, characters don't have access to any kind of blink ability, and secondly, flash allows you to avoid targeted projectiles that may have gotten you snared, and then killed. Finally, flash is a great way to get into position to snare someone who may not be expecting it, or to use an AoE ult. In many of these situations, a regular movement speed buff like ghost isn't enough, and doesn't provide the same element of surprise.

Stacked/farmed Kennen hurts. Each time I run into a decent one of them, they seem to pose a pretty big problem for my team. I guess part of that is just playing with pubs though and often without decent ranged carries, I don't think people respect his Ult enough.

yes. it's the official LoL thread.

i just got trolled by a lux. she went AD. 0-18. the sad part is that our team almost won, too.

The AD part is a bit strange, but 0-15 I find is par for the course for her. Out of ~20 or so I've seen on both sides, 15 were absolutely awful. Being replaced by ryzebot would have been better for that team. A few were decent, but still nowhere near what a player of that caliber would have delivered with a tier1 champ, and only ONE had above average performance (but that could be because of a 0/19 soloing janna on the other team).

At this point without having tried her I'd say Lux belongs in the garbage tier, solidly. Swain is far more dangerous and the concensus on him is "garbage."

I've played against several good Lux players and she's not a nuker. She's half caster half support. Stun enemies, use your AOE to harass and as a ward (the ball of light acts as a sight ward before it blows up), shield allies, and murder low HP runners. One thing that is annoying is the bug with her projectiles coming out of brush. You don't see the ball coming at you or sitting there if she's hidden in brush. So all of a sudden, you're on fire and there was no way to avoid it! Thanks Riot!

Morde is getting a slight makeover. Reportedly:

AP ratios increased.
Mace is more useful (?)
Siphon will generate less shield.
Ult will be better to use but the Ghost pet will be weaker.
Passive will generate more shield through damage.

I think Lux's abilities could use some work. Her little AoE slow probably needs to go and either give her some sort of a single target damaging ability or another utility/heal ability. The ones I played against have been incredibly squishy and defensive in the lane, I feel like they should poke more with her mini-ignites and her long auto attack range to help harass and setup kills via snare and her ult.

In a team fight, her snare is certainly useful, though I've seen little use for the secondary snare and her damage quickly falls behind I've seen, but I've seen some teammates have trouble getting through her shield too.

Lux is weak and a light nuker and light support character. I finally had a game last night where I was on a team with a "good" one. Which meant she stayed behind everyone and basically buffed, snared, and used her Ult on runners. That's about it. She can't go toe-to-toe with any champion at all. I was laning against one last night as Xin in TT at the top and her damage was pathetic. By level 6 I could just stand there and take any beating she tried to throw at me with merc treads on. It was worse when I added a wit's end. I even mentioned over /all "Man that barely tickles you know?" I got the reply "I know and I no likie :/"

She just doesn't have any punching or stay power.

As for morde, he's still one of the if not the most powerful early and mid game tank. He doesn't really need a buff at all. Will have to wait and see though.

I did read on the forums that Riot is thinking about nerfing Madreds Bloodrazors soon though.

That's not a "good" one, that's just one that possibly KSes all the cash away from the carry doing most of the work and in dire need of the money. The "good" one I'm thinking of warded dragon and blue golem, then used her laz0r to steal those from the jungling warwick several times by level 10. He fell way behind and became mostly food.

How do you target her lazer? Like, do you pick a character/minion or just an area? And is the range limited at all?

Point-and-click. It's not a global range ult, but it's got some distance on it. 2500-3000 I think?

I don't think they're trying to buff him. If anything, it looks like a slight nerf with some rebalancing taking place between his abilities. Giving him the option of an AP build as well. As for Madred's, I can see them cutting back the ASPD bonus or removing it completely. It makes it too good of a choice on most DPS characters when the situation calls for it.

Lux certainly is squishy and is basically an inferior version of Morgana.

-Laser versus Morgana ult is debatable because you can max CDR and use the laser a ton though in an AOE comp Morg is clearly better (push).
-Light Binding does less damage than dark binding but snares multiple units (push)
-Black shield vrs Prismatic Barrier... While Barrier is potentially better since it shields twice and can hit multiple targets, the fact that black shield blocks adverse effects (CCs) makes it better in my book (advantage Morgana)
-Tormented Soil vrs Lucent Singularity - Tormented soil does more damage and reduces MR while Singularity Slows and just feels like it's on a delay (advantage Morgana)
Passives - Luxs' is ok early, but late she gets hammered if she gets close enough to use it. Now if your teammates could take advantage of it it would be better. Spell leach is great for Morgana, makes lane-ing really really easy (advantage Morgana).

Overall even with her slight AP ratio nerfs I like Morgana a lot better than Lux.

P.S. I like the 'blog style LoL stories'.

I've been on the fence about picking up Lux, she looks fun but at the same time kinda useless.

Normally I'll run with MF, Vlad, or Galio, but last night i decided to try Veigar. Ended up playing a couple of great games - I didn't get fed, but was able to steadily farm up. One game ended with me sitting at 729 ap with a lichbane and the baron buff. Took out the last two turrets by alternating baleful strikes and then auto-attacking for 600+ a hit.

Besides being extremely squishy and the ult being more effective against AP characters, why isn't Veigar played more often?

Squishy nuker with no hard CC or escape mechanisms. His stun is alright but its more of an area denial effect and a number of characters can escape it pretty easily anyway.

And he waddles.
