smart-cast used to be better, it was a win button because it would target yourself if you aren't targeting anyone. right now if you want to heal yourself u have to do self-cast =(

I've implemented a 1 win solo policy and it's a great thing.
Rule: If no one on my friends list wants to play, play until you win one game and quit because it will go downhill from there.

So I played Sion in my only game (solo ranked) and once again had a decent team (xin was an excellent jungler/ganker) and carried easily going something like 16/3/10. The best part was I finally listened to Sion's taunt:

"What is best in death? To crush your enemies, see them driven before you and to hear the lamentation of noobs"
Massive props to whoever at Riot wrote that.

AP Sion build tip: IN the past I would go
Saph Crystal + 2 hp pots
Sheen + boots of speed (start buying blue elixer every time you have an extra 250)
blasting wand
Upgrade boots (mobility > sorc > mercury if necessary)
blasting wand number 2
Lich bane
<conditional>
Giving me lich bane + boots of speed + blasting rod and I would do pretty well

However if you go
Saph crystal + 2hp pots
sheen + boots of speed (start buying blue elixers)
largest piece of radabons you can afford
radabons deathcap
upgrade boots
lich bane
and you really do some massive damage. Be sure to try and time your spells to use the lich bane procs to their full extent.

If the lane isn't too hard get a point in 'e' at level 2 just to start building HP.
Dual lane: q, e, w, w, w, q (W > Q > E > R)
Solo lane: w, e, w, q, w (W > Q > E > R)

smart-cast used to be better, it was a win button because it would target yourself if you aren't targeting anyone. right now if you want to heal yourself u have to do self-cast =(
For anyone that doesn't know by default self cast is Atl+<spell btn>.

I do not mind solo queue. That is how I got my friends list to begin with. I have great games, I have OK games, I have suck games. Sometimes it's me that sucks, sometimes it's others.

I do not really care if ppl on the team suck. I may get bossy in the game to try to get everyone together, but really I never go on calling people noobs are bitching about it in /all

What I do not like is leavers, people who go afk w/o at least some kind of notice(stuff comes up right), people who blatently are not team players, and people who spam /surrender. And unfortunately, this is happening more and more, not less. I would say maybe it's me, but it even happens when we're winning ;p

I do not make fun of the other team if they are doing poorly. I figure at any moment the tide could turn, seen it happen alot and ppl end up eating their words.

I absolutely agree that leavers are the worst, bad play happens (sometimes just worse play than your opponents). I wish I could have a blacklist even if it only allowed me to have 3 people in it. The guy who starts arguing with our team and decides to jungle lux in champ select.... or another time when some jerk starts arguing with someone else calling mid and they both end up playing in mid. These are very rare, but the one thing I really wish is that LoL would get a voice server up and running so you could actually talk to your team, there have been numerous times while I got into a fight right after typing and end up not casting spells because I'm just entering text into the chat box (plus voice is way more efficient).

Anyone else -not- happy with this patch preview? I really wish they'd just remove tanks and support from this game if they keep hitting CDR and Rammus. 1 really decent tank in the game.. I'd rather they buff the other 5(?) tanks in the game and start adding more.. not hitting the best one. The CDR which is meant to hurt off-tanks/bruisers will destroy my support champs like Zilean.

I've decided to look at this game as a dual role game and not 5 roles anymore with Riot's attitude. Carries + 'bruisers'.

Yea, I'm not liking it. WTF is with the Ryze buff? I mean really? I think it's starting to come to a division of Pro vs Casual players. I see Ryze all the time and consider him pretty OP in the right hands, yet they say he hardly is played. Obviously they aren't looking at the normal games. I must never see a good annie, because I don't find her to be that great.

I suppose Anivia nerf is ok...not happy..but I know everyone thinks she's OP. I don't agree with the Rammus nerf tho. I seriously think they are starting to take bribes for buffs/nerfs.

Yeah I don't understand the Ryze remake the randomness is part of his charm and something you accept when you play him. In fact setting up those bounces to maximize is part of playing him well. If you really want a ranged caster you have Annie (who is an amazing champ if you manage the stun btw). Anivia is OP because taking a chunk of someones life by toggling 'r' and hitting 'e' was really easy.

Regarding tanks I'm not terribly sure why they are nerfing Rammus... he's perma-banned in ranked and I guess that's a problem but bans tend to go by consensus of who's OP that week so it's a never ending cycle. Personally I think Mundo needs to be banned.

A list of tanks and off tanks and what I think of them

Shen: Back to being the most often picked tank, has a short CD taunt, lifesteal, damage mitigation and that annoying shield/teleport what else could you want other than CC.

Amumu: Great initiation/ult pretty poor natural defense though and probably the squishiest of the lot. I don't mind enemies taking him because he has a bad lane presence and he is very easy to gank at blue.

Rammus: A good tank because of his taunt, however the range of his taunt is short enough that I have trouble landing it unless it's a PB > taunt combo so I really don't see him being too OP. His AOE ult is on a short CD so is also nice. The best part about Rammus is that he can safely jungle and the movespeed/stun of his PB allows easy ganking if your opponents aren't cautious.

Malphite: Another decent and fairly safe jungler who has a move speed buff/debuff to make ganking decent. He has a strong lane presence if you use his shield well, his main problem is that his only hard cc is his ult which is on a huge timer so most teams can ignore him if you don't build some AD.

Galio: Still has one of the best ults but is mostly a ranged caster other than that. He has great utility spells and is my preferred champ if the other team has too much AP but should not be a main tank against an AD heavy team.

Singed: One of my favorites and is never banned. Decent lane presence, his only problem is that toss is on such a long CD (in a teamfight 7 seconds is forever). Really he's a good initiator but poor in fight tank since most of what he will do is slow enemies trying to get to squishies/escaping and poison everyone.

Mordekaiser: Great pusher, not a great tank due to complete lack of CC, but with some AP does great damage with tnak gear is near impossible to kill.

Garen: another one with almost no CC so more of a bruiser/very hard to kill guy with a strong lane precense (does AD rather than Mords AP dmg).

Dr. Mundo: once again only a slow, but massive regen allows him to stay in the thick of most any battle. His main advantage over Garen/Mord is that he has great single target damage even when building tanky. I personally think he should be banned regularly since with his anti-cc skill he can charge through most groups and just target the squishy.

Blitzcrank: Another great initiator that can't do a ton once he blows his skills. Makes a formidable ganker/laner but not an ideal main tank. Personally Blitz + anyone with a stun makes for a great lane combo, but I'd rather have a Shen on my team.

Sion: Not really a tank since he is so much more effective as AP but can stun every 8 seconds and get really beefy with shield + bonus HP so I guess he deserves a mention.

If I were team captain more I think I would ban (in order) Mundo, Rammus, Shen, Amumu. All bruisers which leaves teams to sort out tanks from the lesser guys that mostly lack CC.

Lux has to be the highest burst caster in the game (save for a farmed Veigar vs. another caster), but very few people know how to play her well. Her spell/attack sequence has to be precise or else you miss out on damage. But a perfect sequence will drop anyone below the beefy melee types from full health. I got the drop on a full health Vlad at one point and killed him with just one spell rotation. Same level (8) too. And the speed at which it can happen is so fast - I can usually get it all off within 2-3 seconds.

Snare them. Drop the orb on them and leave it. Auto attack to trigger the snare's illumination. Fire up your laser ult. Just before it goes off, detonate the orb. Orb hits and applies passive first, laser hits (triggers passive) and reapplies the passive. One last auto attack if needed for the passive from the laser.

It gets even more ridiculous as you stack AP and get a Sheen/LB and your auto-attack + passive is dealing another 500 damage.

Been having a lot of fun with her the last few days.

Nice post, Lux is one of my favorite characters.

You pointed out some stuff I didn't really think of so I will try it out next time I play, I usually do pretty well but your tips are great.

zabano you missed a few tanks.

Nasus a great anti melee with ult + thron mail. but if he's not farmed up he can be kited forever or just plain being ignored in team fights. one of those champ that needs to be suppressed early game but i think people will pay more attention to his brother in fights and he's not even a tank (i love his brother, so much fun).

Nunu's ult rework had given him more viability and the ice block is mean. great mobility from lane to lane with bloodlust on 100% of the time. On top of my head his AP+HP builds are weak against melees. (RoA, banshee)

Taric is currently having a case of Jax. I think the heal is over nerfed, adding that he's seldomly used people don't know how to play with him in the team anymore. He was my favorite in ranked before but after a really bad game with him I am having second thoughts now. In lane he's seldom targeted because his lane mate is always more squishy and his heal can't save anyone unless you rush it, but then it leaves yourself squishy without the armor of shatter. an advise for him is that heal late, not early, or else people will accuse you of not healing at all.

Then there's Cho, most will build warmogs, firecape and guardian angel and have decent stats. But often is just that he's the last one to die because the enemy went past him to the squishys. Adversaries including the likes of leech yi, jax or anyone with bloodrazor + atk speed.

Still playing a bit but started taking the game less seriously.

Lately been playing alot of AP Teemo. Not the best champ/build in the world but can be fun. Just litterig the map with shrooms that do about 1300dmg a pop at level 18 and I am geared decent. Other team will usually start dropping cash on oracles to see the shrooms.

Also been playing some Caitlyn. She really needs another buff. She can be pretty decent at times, can really push a lane with a good partner. Her ultimate even after the patch buff is underwhelming. Unless you can catch a lone squishy on the run its not much of a kill shot. Not quite enough dmg. And 2 of her abilities scale with AP which doesnt help. Traps can be dropped on someone for a kick stun if your close enough but this means you are too close. Caliber net sometimes can help you escape. I think if the kickback was a little more it would be more plausible, kind of like a shorter version of tristanas move.

whoa, awesome way to play lux. i'll have to give that a shot

Patch notes for today.

Ryze buffed. Amumu buffed. Anivia nerfed. Vlad nerfed slightly. New champ. New item. And changes to the IP/XP system.

Code:
XP & IP Rate Changes
We have completely overhauled the IP and XP system in order to make it more fair. Our intention was to leave the overall XP and IP gained by players unchanged.
Previously, IP and XP were awarded for winning or losing a game. Now, they are granted based on how long the game was, and whether you won or lost.
In a long game, you will make significantly more XP and IP than before. However, in a very short game, you will make less IP and XP. We found it frustrating to be stuck in an hour long games, and then get what was effectively 30 minutes of IP reward.
When calculating the number of minutes the game took, we only award for actual game time. However, we give all games a small fixed bonus reward, which is to give you credit for time in queue and champion selection.
Other details:
We have also tweaked the formulas so that new players get larger quantities of IP in their first 10 or so levels so that they can unlock their first Champions more quickly.
First Win of the Day remains unchanged – it is still a flat bonus you will receive when you are eligible.
We removed the no-leave-streak bonus and increased the IP rewards in general to compensate. The reason we did this is because we felt that with the new LeaverBuster system, this was no longer necessary.

League of Legends v1.0.0.111
Maokai, the Twisted Treant
Sap Magic (passive): Each time a champion near Maokai casts a spell, he gains a charge of Magical Sap. When he has 5 charges, Maokai's next melee attack drains energy from his target, healing him for a percentage of his maximum HP.
Arcane Smash: Maokai slams the ground, the force of which knocks nearby enemies back and sends an arcane shockwave forward, damaging and slowing his enemies.
Twisted Advance: Maokai dissolves into a cloud of arcane energies. He regrows near a target enemy, dealing damage and rooting it in place.
Sapling Toss: Maokai hurls a sapling, dealing damage on impact. The sapling becomes implanted in the ground, warding a nearby area. When enemies approach, the sapling attacks, exploding in an arcane blast that damages enemies.
Vengeful Maelstrom (ultimate): Maokai shields his allies by drawing power from hostile spells and attacks, reducing non-tower damage done to allied champions in the area. Maokai can prolong the effect as long as he has mana to spend on it. When the effect ends, Maokai unleashes the absorbed energy to deal damage to enemies within the vortex.

Holy crap that's a lot of mana for Anivia's Glacial. I know in the forums they said they might have over done it..I guess they were right.

The IP/XP changes are interesting. Maybe less people will qq and surrender early, but doubt it.

wow tons of changes, I'm not sure I like the Ryze changes though. Oh well.

"Smite now deals true damage instead of magic damage" -- awesome, this will make jungling easier.

"Tryndamere
Fixed a bug where Undying Rage could not be used while suppressed"

I'm a bit confused, I thought the difference between Suppression and stun was that you cannot use any abilities while suppressed (including cleanse) which makes Trynd the lone exception to the rule....

Edit: Has anyone played a game with the new champ yet? I've got 1800 RP and thinking about buying him.

This is unfortantely not true for all junglers. Olaf gets spell vamp from his main jungling skill and now that smite is true damage and not magic damage its almost like a secret Olaf nerf. I'm running under the assumption that spell vamp doesn't work for true damage, but I won't be positive till I try it out. It doesn't really matter since after his nerf a few patches ago Olaf isn't very useful anymore and easily gets raped 1v1 to a Renekton.

Its actually nice that they changed the IP/XP bonuses. Its nice for me that they did away with the non-leaver bonus also, since I got my first leave in a very long time on Monday when my power supply practically lit on fire while in the middle of a game. I also think a 20min surrender timer is too short, sometimes you haven't even had a real team fight at that point.

I got a temporary PSU replacement today from a coworker so hopefully when I get home I'll be able to get back in the game assuming the PSU didn't end up taking anything else down with it.

Good luck with that PSU, last time I had one go I had to replace a stick of RAM and the MB as well.
I just watched the new champ spotlight and I'm stoked to try this out. If their servers are halfway solid there will be no Armored Princess tonight =)

So i played one game with the "nerfed" anivia. And of course, 2 of the ppl were playing first time chars..so they fed to high heaven. Overall - I don't think the ult change hurts much at least the way I play. I always used Q,E more than R,E but it was nice to have if stun missed...but it does affect getting blue buff as you run out of mana so much faster.

I have to say I'm really damn lucky. Friends PSU worked fine, nothing broken, thank god. The patch seemed to fuck my runes and masteries along with my summoner spells, so the first game I went into today, had the wrong spells and no runes/masteries. Needless to say I was called everything under the sun from my great supportive teammates since I sucked ass that game.

Thankfully I went on to easily win the second game.
