I just bought Shaco, does anyone know if he can actually still solo the Golem @ level 1? I followed some examples on how to do it but I pull the epic fail every time.

Anyway, he can be awesome but takes some skill. Fits my playstyle well except my problem is falling behind in level early on because he is not a good minion farmer, hes not a pusher hes purely a ganker. But no matter how good you are its just tough to gank people when your 2-3 levels behind.

Still, the games where I have found a way to at least remotely keep up in level, I have kicked some serious ass. I have gone 1/12 with him and been accused of being a total waste, and I have gone over 20 kills and been accused of hacking rofl. Feast or famine.

You want to get Jack in the Box first and stack them at golem before it spawns. You should get 4-5 boxes down before it appears. Then just autoattack and ignore the little guys. I don't know how feasible it is to solo if you're a low level and don't have the added support of runes and masteries. You can always ask your teammate in the nearby lane to come help you as well if you don't care about splitting the XP.

Shaco is an OK hero.

I've only seen like 10% of the people play him with any sort of success. He's godly if you get an early feed and know what your doing.

Try out Mundo...he really is very good. Excellent chaser..and a tank to boot.

last night a shaco was jungling near my lane (solo vs 2 because he jungled) and ganked a lvl 7 mordekaiser all by himself when he was lvl 5. he levels up to on par with us when he had about 3+ ganks past level 6 and can jungle/gank quite well.

Same as Gragas... First hit Q to begin charging tornade (And gaining its dmg) and then Q to fire it off early if needed.

Can be very quickly fired if needed

Absolutely, and that works against melees but good ranged characters tend to dodge it. I actually played as Janna yesterday in a real game and the one trick that worked well was to fire it in the direction I was running and anyone chasing me would get hit. Other than that it was a lot of shielding, trying to knock up with 'Q' and hitting weak enemies with 'W'. Until my enemies hit about level 12 I didn't die since Janna is so fast, has knock up, a slow and a shield. I'll definitely be playing her again. The one thing I might change is to give up heal (I played full support with heal and rally) in exchange for flash since 'R' has a knockback built in and knocking people into tower is fun (got this once by hiding in the grass).

I also tried Pantheon and that guy isn't really a tank but with a 4 second cool-down on his spear-toss he's an amazing ganker early. Once we hit about level 8 that slowed down and I died a couple times when I tried to initiate. If I play him as a DPS I think he'll be a good character. Unfortunately he costs a lot to unlock. My only complaint is that it is way too easy to dodge his ult.

Characters that annoy me (kill me a lot): Twitch, Teemu, Annie, Fiddle. Anyone with a stealth can be added to this list =)

Re: steathers, vision wards. Buy and use them! Drop them in the middle of your lane for max coverage. You should also place some in the rivers to cover stuff like baron/dragon and to keep an eye on enemy movement. Whoever dies the least (usually a tank or support) should get an oracle too.

People really underestimate the utility of wards. And clairvoyance. You should have at least one on your team.

Since people seem to be in a mood to answer questions:

1. Is Katarina worth playing, I read through all the character descriptions and she seems like a fun ganker.

2. How do you tell what summoner level your opponents/allies are during a game or in the hero selection process? 'o' during the game brings up kill info but I don't see summoner level there.

1. I've seen people do OK with Katerina but overall I'd give her a 5.5/10 as far as a ganker is concerned. Mundo is even better. So No. In short not really.

2. I'm not sure either..Somehow this may be purposely blinded from others in the selection process to prevent people from queue dodging.

1. Katarina used to be a monster but she was nerfed really hard. Her ultimate is too easy to avoid, escape, or just flat out shutdown (stun or blind is all it takes). It pretty much forces her into melee because of it's limited range and therefore is more of a detriment to her in a team fight because she isn't very resilient. Her bouncing blade skill barely helps with pushing. Ultimately, there are better heroes that fulfill her roles.

2. After the game's over, you can mouse over the player names in the stats summary and it will display their level. Same thing in the chat window of a premade before you go into champion select. But if you solo queue you can't tell anyone's summoner level or number of wins.

In addition to firing early, Janna's Q has a very, very, very long range.

You can set it up early out of sight and audtio range of enemies to help with ganks by predicting where the enemy will run.

And also, I'm back to playing gangplank. The guy is an absolute monster once farmed. I used to crit/dmg, but throwing in "Phantom Dancer" for both crit and attack speed makes him a !#$ing beast.

My record is up to 26-8 with him, knocking off my twitch/teemo wins. I'm also starting to suck more with Blitzcrank, as people are smarter at dodging my hook.

Anyone here main gangplank and mind sharing runes?

I would assume armor penetration or crit dmg for Red/Quints, but... crit or mana regen for yellow? crit dmg or what for blue?

I tried out Kaylee yesterday and it was just brutal. We eventually won, but that was because of fiddle, not me. Eventually I just started following others around, using my heal and ult and dropping q&e on any enemies who got too close. That said there was a Teemo who killed me like 10 times. Absolutely ridiculous.

I also tried a practice game as Janna and that Q is so slow you can't possibly be anything but a support in a real game .

I just stack crit runes.

Nothing but crit in red, Crit in yellow, crit in quinescent slots,

Blue for cooldown reduction= win.

Big news of late is that the mastery trees are getting completely redone. Those that have seen the new masteries say they are a lot more potent then the current ones.

I've come to the conclusion that I simply suck at this game. I'm better than I was but communication is a big problem. Early on with Alistar I tried to gank and my lane partner ran. The next time I ran and he stayed, unfortunately this has happened a lot lately leading to easy farming for the other team. =(

Alistar is a however fun character. Last night I (Alistar) hid in the bushes while the other team pushed mid. I then popped my ult ran in the middle of them, dropped a 'Q' then used 'W' to throw Annie to my teammates/tower who made short work of her while I popped ghost and got the hell out of there (looking forward to flash).

Interesting. I'm not sure if more potent is good, but the matchmaking system has kept me from playing anyone over level 18 so I guess it won't be a big deal.

havent been using alister exclusively for a week i am convinced that he's not capable of killing anything on his own period. The usual gank routine is flash, pound floor, pound enemy, slow, get the hell outta there. but even that you need a lot of practice because u need to flash in JUST right or u will miss the pound and end up feeding because u have little HP early.

the best char i've played so far is TF. a gold card on my head is a great deterrent to the enemy, i've seen many, especially twitches running away when i have gold card on. i guess people haven't realized they changed the card picking and gold card isn't AOE stun anymore it's much easier to pick now.

You're playing Alistar wrong if you're attempting solo ganks on something other than a squishy at like a quarter health. He's a tank and he needs to work in concert with a team (or at least one teammate) to get kills. His role is to tank, knock enemies back to the rest of his team, and use his AOE heal to push creep waves on towers.

As much as I love this game BOY does it get frustrating.

I hit level 17 and now every match making game throws me into the ring with nothing but level 30s . And 85% of them are total douchebaggets.

A 6 game losing streak doesnt help :(

Are the ranks getting thin? Anyone else notice this?

i notice that if you come in as a group(even just 2 ppl queue together) it will put you against very high level guys. but it's been pretty good in solo match up though.

I've had no trouble with players who are clearly too high a level. That said, there are clearly players who are much better than everyone else and when they start racking up kills it gets worse as the game goes on since they turn that gold into better items. However I know that I'm a low elo because at level 11 about 80% of my opponents/team are lower level than me.

This begs the question of how do you spec when leveling up? Until yesterday I was totally utility with a specific focus on getting mana regen both from my masteries and from my runes. I flipped that to offensive options (+ crit, attack speed masteries, armor pent & crit cahnce runes) but still lost my next game, that said I amazingly didn't have any mana problems so I'll stick with these settings for now.

im all utility and cooldown reduction right now. my reason is that barring a few gankers that i don't play, everyone needs them, and i haven't bother to build a tree for a specific hero yet.

I tend to favor a full utility tree with the extra 9 points in offense/defense depending on if I'm playing a tank or not. The game centers around abilities so much it's silly not to get max CD (40%) which is easy when you can get 24% from masteries alone. Auto-attackers (Teemo, Ashe, Yi, etc) are the only ones I switch to 21 in offense and 9 in utility.
