Old stomper trucks

The other day at work I brought up Stompers with the pulling sled and every one looked at me like I had green hair or some thing.. they took one AA battery and the bodies clipped on them you could get diffrent motors and diffrent tires like rubber and foam and some had really big tires for in the water.. any one else remember these....

Yeah, they rocked. I had a bunch, along with the Stomper offroad track. Don't forget you could also shift them for hi and lo gearing 🙂

edit: oh, and headlights too!

Maybe I'm mistaken about the hi/lo...could have sworn they did, or at least 2wd/4wd.

Some of the later ones had the shift option, by a flat plastic tab in the base which pushed left and right. I think it was simply a speed setting.

There was a rip-off toy that had a "stick shift" in the top, as well as cones for the hubs so they could go on two side wheels, don't remember the name of the rip-off toy though.

The best were the bigger ones that had claws in the tires that came out when it encountered a tough obstacle. 🙂

Another rip-off, not actual Stompers.

I know, but far cooler.

I had a couple Stompers too, they were awesome. If you pushed them after the battery had already died you could make enough electricity to light up the lights. 🙂

I loved stompers when I was a child. Used to build stuff out of books and album covers for it to climb. When ever I had the money though I had to buy new ones because I used to take them apart and make other things out of them. MY fav thing to make from them was motorized boats. I would make a prop out of a mc d pop lid and then take the straw and melt it over the moto to the plastic bottom of the boat to make it stay. Take a needle heat it with a lighter (holding it with plyers of course or it would burn your fingers) and put two holes for the wires then put melted straw to seal the holes. The rest of the stomper guts go inside the boat to turn it on and off. Worked great till the motor would rust 😛

Walmart is selling some knock offs of them still. I got my kids 4 of them. The new ones are cool because the on off switch also messes the gears. So when it is off it free wheels. Thats the only thing I hated about my stompers. I grew up ultra poor and we sometimes couldnt afford batteries. It was always locked in gear. I took some that I made into boats would put the shells back together so I could ppush them around.

All in all alot of fun.

My other fav toy when I was younger was my electric race track. I believe it was called cliff hanger. It was the first track that came with cars with magnets in them so they can race up walls and upside down. I played the piss out of that track.

Stompers were a staple toy of my childhood. I took several apart. Just seeing those on the webside listed above brought back sooo many memories.

Speaking of making boats. I had this one that was about 10X the regular size of a stomper which wasn amphibious. It had an impeller like a jet ski built in. I dont' rememvber exactly what it was called but it was something like "Stomper Monster Water ...something...".

Wow, to be 6 years old again...

Edit: I'm pretty sure THIS is it!

Edit Again! It was a Stomper Monster Water Demon! That was a cool truck! Amazing how just thinking about these toys is bringing back childhood memories and not just those "Yeah I remember being a child." I'm talking about specific "I can remember where I was and what I was doing" memories.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane yokomo!

I had one of those too! They were great!

I had a couple of these when I was a kid. I often look for something similar at the toystore for my youngest sun because he loves trucks.

Original stompers had no shift mechanism. After a year or more, another company released Rough Riders which had a shift mechanism.

Shortly thereafter, new stompers were released which had a high/low shift.

I had about 10 stompers and traded them with friends.
