Im going to buy a Asus P2B PII/PIII Slot 1 440BX Motherboard to go with my P3 500mhz cpu.

The problem is that i dont have the brackets that would hold the cpu in place with the motherboard. Would it be a problem if i wouldnt use those clips that hold the cpu in place? Would the cpu fall out?

You talking about needing the retention mechanisms that clip into the board and the proc slides into?

If you can't find them in a local comp shop, try sleezBay, or e-mail me..I got about a dozen of those damn things sittin in a box. I bought them for My P2B and P3B-F's that didn't have them either.

Your best bet will be with mom and pop sized computer shops or a PC-recycle joint.

I just turned on PM's..PM me if you need to get ahold of me..

I've assembled slot1 based PC's and never used the clips without a problem. there is no huge issue without using the clips. just don't toss the PC around. :p

As long as you have BIOS version 1008 or later for the P2B you should be fine. I use the board but only with a Pentium II. I would recommend the retention mechanisms though because I had major stability issues without those. Alright hope that helped ya some.

Gretzky,
According to the P2B-LS manual (which is the board I have), this ver. will only support 1024MB memory (4 x 256) and a 450 processor which can also be overclocked.
Have you checked into this? If you have any other info, I would be glad to hear it.
This is one of the all-time great boards...a classic IMHO. The only other BX board in the same catagory with this Asus board would have to be the Soyo 6BA +IV, TIKO.
Don't hesitate to post more on this project as there are many who would be interested, I'll bet.:)

Unfortunately, A lot of used boards seem to end up not having the retention brackets for some odd reason.. I bought a bunch of P2Bs', P2B-Fs', and a P3B-F that didn't have them.
