old school games

Hello!

I'm having trouble running some rather old games (actually, one in particularl: Masters of Magic) on my computer. Its a couples years old now, [ Dell 700mhz p3, 256 megs ram, GeForce 256 agp,SB Live!, etc.), and I'm currently running Win2k pro on it.

Anywho, first question is if anyone knows any kind of DOS emulators or something that could run old games/programs like that on Win2k. I also had problems running the game when I was using Win98. It always said I had insufficient "conventional memory" and then "expanded memory". I called Dell and Microprose tech support many times, never coming to any solution.

I know its not a great game, but its the principle of the matter!! 😱
Any help?
Thanks!

The problem I have had in the past is that alot of the old DOS games required large
amounts of the conventional, i.e. first 640K, RAM. When I was using these games I
had to create a small FAT partition on my harddrive and then make a DOS boot disk.
The boot disk had to be setup to load stuff into the high memory, to free up some
of the first 640K. I had zero luck getting any of these games to run in emulators or
command prompt windows.

this topic was discussed fairly recently. It was suggested to just make an ms-dos boot floppy. That way you don't have to mess with the win2k booting.

Okay, thanks a bunch. I guess I'll look into the DOS boot-disk.

Hopefully, something will eventually work.

You may consider looking for a program called MoSlo, if the game runs to fast, some old games used loops to make delays, and with faster computers, they move to fast, that program is a dos one that slows down the system so you can play older games..pretty easy to use too, good luck
