I have an old ISA SB16 soundcard which is not working well..
It works well with winamp and real player until I click on the volume control button in the task menu. I can't play any games or media player because it hangs system with strange sounds.

It uses IRQ of 5, and DMA channel of 3 and 7 which are not shared by any other devices.
I heard that SB16 is supposed to use DMA of 1 and 5 not 3 and 7.
Do you think this is causing the trouble?

goofy,

What version of Windows are you using when you experience these problems? Also, could you describe the "strange sounds" in more detail (is the system making a hissing sound, a high-pitched sound, etc.)?

Did this problem just start, or have you been experiencing this for some time? If it did just start, did you install anything new in your system which might have affected the sound card's performance?

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers for the card? I'm not sure if Creative keeps a copy on their site, but it's worth a look.

Good luck.
