Teen lifestyle of staying up late make teen drivers a high risk to have an automobile accident due to drowsiness.

More than any age group, teens are likely to be involved in a single vehicle crash.

Yeah...but...my father-in-law would be on his best behavior for things like that. It was when he was relaxed, just going about his business that he was at his most dangerous. Luckily, he didn't hit anyone else, tho his pickup took some damage.

Most preventable accidents are caused by or involve seniors.

Stats mean nothing unless you actually check out the accident details.

Ex: senior cuts you off. You swerve to avoid them. You hit another vehicle. That accident while caused by a senior is actually written up as caused by you. The stats then list it as an accident in your age range. Unless you have a plate or other proof, that accident is blamed on you.

No license should go to anyone under 19 as far as I am concerned. More maturity is needed to drive effectively today.

For a more comprehensive idea of what age range is causing needless accidents, try talking to a car insurrance adjuster or car insurrance investigator. That will really open your eyes.

I completely agree with you. Still, I feel really bad about ripping into old people, they've put in their due and for most of them they deserve whatever respect/help we can provide. But some just shouldn't be on the road.

That's just not fair. How are teens supposed to get to work, or just to wherever they want to go? Have mommy and daddy drive them everywhere?

I'm all for stricter testing standards, but keep the age limit for licenses at 16..

Yeah, here's the thing about insurance though. My insurance company (supposedly one of the best civilian car insurance companies there are) still has an "unlucky" stipulation. Something like if you have 3 wrecks in a span of (18-36 months) I've forgotten exactly which, they can still raise the rates or cancel you even if you were not at fault. Sure, you're a good driver, but damn you're unlucky!

The other one was a little over two years ago, so I'm not sure what the deal is going to be there. We called the insurance this morning but they are closed on the weekend so they'll get back to us on Monday.

On the bright side, I don't feel any worse today than I did yesterday. I'm still a little stiff in the shoulders, and I have a bit of bruising where my seatbelt was, but apart from that I'm fine.

I wouldn't have a problem with everyone getting retested regularly for driving. It would probably reduce the bad habits people pick up, it would also keep inept drivers off the road.

Until young people vote in great numbers, it'll never happen. And it's cool to be apathetic & indifferent (MTV says so), so don't hold your breath.
