You must not've watched very many Saved By The Bell episodes. It's not like "going steady" is archaic terminology.
 
As a mom, I'd like to point out that in the olden days, "going steady" was a euphemism for "going all the way" which means, in more direct lingo, screwing.

You young people are just as silly as we were. Why is "hooking up" any less of a euphemism than "going steady"?

Nothing, really. If I were thinking about it, I would have said something intelligent. Then again... I never think about anything. 😛
 
nik if you are discussing such things with your mother, you have more things to worry about than her not knowing slang of the youngins.
