First off I'd like to say I did make a thread for a PC build a few months back but because of time/school and life in general I was unable to go through with it. But it as now come to the point were my current PC wont even turn on, and I think it's time for a new one. My Building experience is very small, plus it's been years since ive built one, but I think i'll manage.

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.

WoW, BF3, MW2, MW3, FSX, MS Flight (whenever that is). Also the regular excel/powerpoint stuff and a bit of Photoshop.

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread

$1000 +/- $150

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

Canada, NCIX.

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.

I'd like for the CPU to be Intel. GPU don't care.

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.

Monitor and mouse (maybe :p)

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.

I've read a few of the threads on this front page here and have a general understanding.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.

No overclocking at all.

8. What resolution YOU plan on gaming with.

1600x1050

9. WHEN do you plan to build it?

Within the next 10 days.

10. Don't ask for a build configuration critique or rating if you are thin skinned.

Okay :D

A couple other questions:

Do you have anything against Newegg.ca? (They have Intel processors cheaper than ncix, for one.)

How do you feel about mail-in rebates? What if they're in USD?

A few questions:

Is that ASrock Motherboard reliable? Ive been out of the PC game for a while and don't know much about the most up-to-date reputable brands.

What are your thoughts on ATI? I read a thread somewhere here saying that the ATI6870 is a better option?

ASRock has a nice reputation
ATI sold its GPU division to AMD.... youve been away from gaming for a LONG time xD

GTX 560 TI is better than the (now gone) ATI 6870

I have nothing against Newegg. The main reason I prefer NCIX is because they have a warehouse nearby as opposed to Newegg.ca who are based in Toronto I believe.

With MIR's I'd prefer if they were in CAD.

Always having a store near you is good, mine is COMPUSA. Shipping will be a pain for some people.

MIR's tend to be unreliable, jsut saying :\

Here's a Newegg.ca build that I just did for someone with very similar requirements as yours:

i5 2400 + GA-Z68XP-UD3 combo $337 - no point in getting the i5 2500 since you won't be overclocking
G.Skill DDR3 1333 8GB $45 - 16GB would be pointless for your given use
6950 2GB $250 AR - as Blue Shift and wanderer said, we obviously can't know if this will be good enough until the games actually come out, but it probably will be fine
Crucial M4 128GB $210 - solid, fast SSD
Samsung F3 1TB $75
Samsung DVD Burner $18
XFX Core 550W $63 AR
Lian-Li PC-K7B $80
Total: $1078 AR (whoops!!)

That includes some USD rebates, but we're still probably a less than $50 difference.

Would there my any considerable performance difference going from the 2500 to the 2400? I ask because both the mobo/cpu combos hover around $330, and if there is a difference I'd rather just take the 2500.

Also my current monitor is VGA but it has a DVI converter, will that mess up the video card/ display in anyway? It's Samsung Syncmaster 266BW

About a 6.5% difference, for a 7.7% price premium @Newegg, assuming there was a bundle which I don't see.

Also, mfenn forgot to add in the $250 video card to his total. :$

Edit: Most cards these days come with a DVI to VGA converter.

Alright. I'm ready to check out, just need one last fly-through.

Intel i5 2400 Sandy Bridge
GIGABYTE GA-P67A-D3-B3 LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0
COOLER MASTER HAF 912
Antec EarthWatts EA-650 GREEN 650W ATX12V
SAMSUNG CD/DVD Burner 22X DVD+R
Western Digital Caviar Blue WD10EALX 1TB 7200 RPM
PowerColor AX6950 2GBD5-2DH Radeon HD 6950 (Why not the 1GB version?)

I passed on the SSD, I might consider it in the future. PSU good? Parts compatible (Mobo Specifically)? With the money saved on the SSD should I go the 2500 route, and are there any combo's?

PSU is good but i think its too much. you can go with a 550 watt if you wanted too.
you can look for the combos yourself :p

I'll grab a 550W instead, EarthWatts is good right?

I just need to know 2 things before I transact, is the mobo compatible? and is there anything wrong/bad with the 6950 2GB version?

I'd like to check out within the next hour or two :)

EarthWatts is good but id go with this because its modular, making the inside of the case nice and neat :)
Motherboard is compatible
there is nothing wrong with the GPU itself, but there can be problems with the coolers and such. i recommend this (cheapest one, and it has 3 fans!)

Alright. I might as well go with the 1GB version if I wont be taking too big of a preformance hit.

All those parts look good to me. The 2GB 6950 has more RAM than the 1GB one, :awe: other than that it's exactly the same. The extra RAM does help in texture heavy games like The Witcher 2, at resolutions above 1080P, and if you like to turn up the AA.
