old p4 works in newer MB?

My Asus P4B533-V burned out. I need a new MB. Has anything changed that would preclude me buying any MB that takes a socket 478 cpu?

If you're located near Fry's & the deal for an ECS board and a 2.4 Prescott for $119 is still on perhaps that would be a better option for you for just a little more $ than a board alone. Reports are that this combo overclocks to 3.8/3.9 easily...

3.8/3.9 easily? Really? Northwoods pretty much max out at 3.7 - do Prescotts easily get to 3.8? I can't imagine what kind of heat that would put out. You wouldn't be able to cool that except with water or some extreme HSF with heatpipe setup. Plus, you would have to use a 3:2 memory ratio or so, since you would need 300+ FSB for those speeds.

Yea I'd rather not buy memory. And a small case means not so much power.
My memory if I remember right has something to do with 333. I dont remember though

The Abit IS7 will work for you. It supports FSB speeds from 100 - 200, leaving you some room to upgrade later. Peace.

i ran my 1.8 p4m (northwood 400fsb) just fine in my ic7 max3
any socket 478 board should run yur socket 478 processor, unless the board is deformed or something 🙂

that 1.6a should run at 133MHz easily enough though, so it's not really *absolutely* necessary to get a board that supports 400MHz FSB.
