Old Stuff= They don't sell out
New Stuff = They sell out = Profit

Wow I haven't heard anyone use the term "sell out" since the mid 90's. I'll tell you what i told those idiots then also.

There is NO such thing as a "sell out". The second you sign a record contract, you are already trying to profit from your music. So every music who has a record contract is automatically a sell out. There is no other reason not to continue to play local bars and just for fun, other than for profit. That is the only reason to record a record and sell it. I got so sick of idiots who know nothing about music saying that.

Maynard said it best:

"All you know about me is what I've sold you,
Dumb fuk.
I sold out long before you ever heard my name.

I sold my soul to make a record,
Dip sh!t,
And you bought one."

Ya Maynard is a good example.. A GREAT example:roll: just take a look at APC's new album. And my definition of "Selling Out" is much diffrent than yours... My definition simply when an artist than turns to the mainstream, and appeals to them and only them .Leaving their roots and leave behind there best fans.. Good examples of that are Blackeyed Peas, Outkast , 30 Seconds To mars ..Corporate Cookie cutter crap. Greed is a killer

Have you ever worked in the music business or play music? What you consider "selling out" a lot of times is bands growing up. Yes Maynard is a perfect example. APC's new album sounds almost exactly like their last album?

Bands usually have their best album as their first or second album. Check the trend. The reason is a band isn't touring the world 24/7 and promoting an album when they are writing that first album. They have YEARS and YEARS to create that material (which a lot of times you see spill over into a second album). After 10 years and 3 albums, you've gone from 20something to 30something. Your life style changes and so does your music. Also your schedule is so hectic that you don't take time to write music everyday like you did when you weren't popular.

Then the recording company says "hey, you need an album by next year". So you're forced to write music under that type of pressure to "produce" music.

No only that, what are roots? You leave your roots the day you sign a record deal. You are creating music for money. Record companies always push for a band to become popular and to write music as such. If those bands didn't care about $$$ and keeping their roots, they'd all sign to Indi labels and keep to themselves.

Theres no such thing as selling out. You have a job, they have a job. Their job is to provide food and money for your family. You're a sellout because you work a job that maybe isn't what you want to do.

So is there really such thing as a sell out? Nope, it's just someone trying to make it big and a lot of money. But losers on the internet want to whine about their fav band is "Selling out" because their music has changed, but that band "sold out" the day they signed the record deal.
