switch the 4:3 and 16:9 around and you have the past year, LOL

Ok I do not usually do this but....

This thread is useless and should be locked.

Whats wrong with the Official Bioshock Thread that is stickied at the top of this forum.

Thats why we have that thread, to stop all the offspring posts like this one.

I am having fun too! The other thread is pages upon pages of complaints and no real opinions on gameplay.

And so will this one...

Do you think by putting some fancy words in the title will stop people from crapping in it? lol

😀

Look I did it...

It is dark so I would guess that was the reason they appear to pop out. "I will wrap you in a sheeeeeet" lol

I can tell already that it is better than FEAR but I was hoping for Far Cry or Half Life. This just seems somewhere in between so far. Perhaps I'm still in the "you're getting used to the game, give it time" phase, I don't know. It just feels too constrained and linear. I don't feel immersed yet...

It's weird that you mention this. This is almost exactly what a gamernode review said.

..I was a little worried at first, because the first hour or two of the game really gave no indication that BioShock is anything other than a good looking generic shooter. Just as I was wondering what would happen if I were the first person to give BioShock a non-awesome score, things picked up, and I knew I didn't have to worry any longer, and that I was in for a hell of a ride...

It'd be interesting to hear if you think the same in another hr or two.

Exactly what I was thinking yesterday after 2 hours, it seemed as canned as the next game and I was wondering what all teh reviewers were talking about. Then right a 2 hours when I couldn't stay awake anymore, I ran into my first encounter with Adam and it got interesting. For example the first enemy that took me out was a Big Guy right at that point. I didn't have enough ammo to just take him out, so I know I'm going to have to be creative with coming up with a way to trash him and get to the girl. I can't wait to get home and see what the next hour brings.

I think one official thread should be enough,if it gets out of hand we have MODs.

Seems like a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation.

The uproar over a company leaning towards 'favoring' a majority of users has been comical and sad at the same time.

But I do agree that the FOV could probably be wider. I'll see how I feel after a few more hours of gameplay.

oh noess two threads about one thing i am having heart palpitations!

one is a bitchfest and now some people turned this one into that too!

sheesh.

Okay... I've played an hour into it now and I must say, it is quite immersive! The splicers have a personality all their own, the environment is fun to explore. It's also quite stable. I'd have gotten over Stalker's graphics if it had been stable.

This game appears to be worth the coin for gameplay alone.

I've gotten serious ROI with my 8800GTX in DX9; perhaps Crysis or Alan Wake will answer the call for full DX10/AF/AA & WS...

Has anyone been able to get AA to work in this game? I'm going to give nHancer a shot next.

My big complaint so far is that I feel like I'm being railroaded, with little freedom of choice.

Ok, so I decided to try the demo out... It is downloading now... Going to see if the AA settings can be forced in the drivers or not... I'll let you all know what I think of the demo.

I am also downloading the two-worlds demo... That looks more promising, but only time will tell... 😀

I really like the premise and gameplay. I just played it for a good 45 min. I give it 7/10 so far because the texture shoddiness is too blatant for me to sink into the environment. I am hoping for more though as I don't think I've reached the point where it supposedly begins taking off yet. At this point though I would not have bought game had I known

Per the discussion earlier on the importance of graphics vs gameplay, an article just published addresses the question: http://advancedmn.com/article.php?artid=10072

However, for you graphic hounds pissed about the textures, the article uses BioShock as an example of a game with amazing graphics that enhance its gameplay. The articles conclusion (spoiler!) is that all parts of a game are equally important. I disagree.

A game with awesome graphics but terrible gameplay isn't worth playing.
A game with awesome gameplay can look like crap and I'd still play it if it was fun. Hell I still play way too much Internet Checkers that came with XP!

Since the Mod's won't allow a new thread, and the topic creator is too much of a sticky-whore to actually contribute to his own thread by linking to known solutions to issues in his first post, here it goes and I hope people actually SEE this:

AA works, but you can force it as LONG AS YOU RUN DX9. There are still issues with a certain lighting settings and this is obviously not the best solution, but it is one. Proof that it works:

I'd eat burnt chicken before I'd eat well-flavored dogpoop but truth be it I'd not eat either and wouldn't expect to have to in any decent circumstance.

I'm not sure why people come out defending gameplay over graphics so often. It's weird to me. It's not like better graphics means poorer gameplay. Although the vice versa is true to me. Poor graphics = poor experience because suspension of disbelief won't happen.

Bioshock looks so fake I never get to the point of immersion.

Why aren't you guys buried in games from the 1990's if your assertions are true? Some of the best adventure games are from those days. Space Quest, etc etc. You can't have played them all.

Finally, all great, epic, 10/10 games, FFVII, Half Life 1,2, Far Cry, etcetera had superb graphics. This game is very good, but it doesn't reach this 98/100 level that its being touted at when most of its graphics are 6/10

I have to agree about the some of the textures, some are good some are blurry. I think they could of used a lot more gnarly bump maps, it's pretty subtle as of now. Someone said the toilets look like HL1, yes they do.

The water is the best feature in the graphics department, the lighting is OK and performs good. The sound is mostly great, except when it cuts out when I'm machine gunning a Big D. where the sound totally cut out, prolly a problem on my end .

The gameplay , storytelling and fun factor are top notch, but it still feels consolish to me. Anyway It is a game that will run well on most systems . But I sure hope somebody does a texture pack for this game.

I wouldn't worry so much. Currently there this topic seems to be getting a fair amount of (negative) media attention which always leads to possibility of changes.
