Can anyone tell what game is in the SNES in the background? I was hoping it was Zelda, but the label looks too busy on the right.

he sends a 4k$ check, asks to deposit it and send 3k$ of it back to them. The victim sends the 3k before discovering that the check was fake.
This old lady somehow convinced the scammer to send 50$ in cash with the check and then didn't comply with the instructions and just reported it.

Yeah, he wanted her to cash the $4000 cheque and send $3000 back. However, she said she would just wait until the check cleared and I guess he sent her the cash to prove it was legit. She has taken the $50 cash as payment for answering the phone every day, and gave the cheque to her bank and told them it was fraudulent. She also notified the local sheriff.

The weird part is that the the scammer (scammee now?) was still trying to convince her after she told him she knew he was a fraud, and actually now has also taken to saying he loves her. I guess he has multiple very different ways of scamming people.

she also has to much free time..
She's 80 and retired. I would hope she has lots of free time.

Thats pretty funny, I don't think I would give my address to someone like that though, then again, he's probably not going to hop on a plane to get revenge.

she couldn't wipe the phone off prior to going on camera?

Yeah, I was thinking she should use the $50 to buy a new, clean phone, but you know what...she's 80, and probably just doesn't give a fuck.

Good for her on not getting scammed. People that prey on the elderly like this are a special kind of scum.

The part that pisses me off is the police said the only way to get him to stop is to change her number. God Damn police. I don't know you could maybe go arrest the prick?? I guess they don't even want to try and just let them keep victimizing people.

This tends to be overseas; Jamaica is a hot spot for it. They are very limited in what they can do.

The excellent show with Dan Rather did a story on this, went to Jamaica and met with police and scammers and showed some American victimes, show is sold on itunes.
