Came upon the scene of an accident today. Whipped the camera out and snapped a few pics.

The scene:

Basically it looked like she decided that instead of turning left, she wanted to go straight down the wrong side of the road on the other side of the intersection.

Close up of the damage:

Here they're taking her out on a stretcher:

I'm guessing this guy was in the car with her or something:

Cute chick checking out the scene too :) :

I couldn't detect an airbag deployment and the guy that was presumably in the car with her is probably her loser son that lives in the basement and posts on some stupid tech forum.

Edit: nevermind; I see the airbag.

Also, you can tell that he's a baller with his $200 Champion sweat pants, the M3 and the AMEX Black credit card.

Somewhere there is someone bitching a storm up because their UPS package was late.

Probably here.

Is anybody else of the opinion that the qualification process for obtaining a driver's license should be significantly more rigorous? I mean, I spend a LOT of time on the road compared to most people, and I see some pretty ridiculous stuff day-in and day-out.

For all I know, this old lady drives fine most of the time, and in this instance perhaps she experienced some type of medical emergency behind the wheel that could literally happen to anyone... but I can't tell you the number of people (of the stereotypical demographics, more often than not, but others as well) that I see that commit utterly incomprehensible actions behind the wheel.

I guess I'd just like it if there were less idiot drivers on the road, but then, who wouldn't? I'm well aware of the inherent bias, i.e. "anyone driving faster than me" = "maniac" and "anyone driving slower than me" = "moron," some of the stuff I see makes me wish I had a license to kill.

Please don't involve paralleled parking on the test.

A very large hole should be dug. All of the old people should be put into the hole.

Could we get a frontside pic of the girl with the sporty outfit?

Old people should be banned from driving after a certain age. To get a license after that age, they need to past a rigorous driving test, every 3 months.

It's good that at least SOME driving skill is involved in getting a license. If people are failing to get licenses because they can't parallel park, well, it's good not to have them on the road.

You're assuming that the old lady was at fault. Given the way some UPS drivers around here behave, it's entirely likely that he was at fault.

3 months is a little extreme, but I think that past 60 or 65 it should be done every year.

For people of all ages licenses should be treated as a privilege, not a birthright. They should be harder to get and easier to lose. If you can't drive safely and responsibly, take the freaking bus.

And talking on the cell phone while driving, or texting while driving should be treated like DWI.

I did think that - for a moment. But if you look closely, the UPS truck is on the right side of the road, and the car seems to have hit it head-on, on the wrong side of the road (for the car).

Think of how many people pass tests in school: Quick cram for the test, not to learn anything, but to pass the test.

Same thing for the driver tests: Cram in enough to pass, and that's it.

Then think about how stupid many people are, and how averse they are to thinking about anything.
Even simple things like choosing a good path to get into a gas station, I see this one constantly:
Option 1: Turn right at a green light, then wait to turn left across a lane of traffic that's stopped by a red light, which also impedes traffic behind the car waiting.
Option 2: Go through the green light, then turn right. Done.

Or exiting the same parking lot:
Option 1: Turn right onto a road, then wait at the light, then turn right onto the main road.
Option 2: Turn right directly onto the main road.

In both cases, Option 2 is much easier, yet it is frequently not used. Thinking....gooood.

Yes, I love that. :)
Everyone is both the best and the worst driver.
"I drive so much better than everyone else." - It seems that many people say that.

No, I'm not. There's no legitimate reason for her to have been going that direction on the wrong side of the road. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you couldn't figure that out from my description of the scene and the unclear pictures, not because of the obvious.
