Old Jr. High / HS books that you loved?

Flowers for Algernon made me cry back then... The proceeding journal entries showing deteriorating intelligence.. The people who used to ridicule him changed dramatically as well....

It was very written.. *sigh*

never heard of it

My favorite book of all time is definitely The fountainhead by Ayn Rand. Unbelievably well written and I love Objectivism!

i never liked anything i was made to read in high school, i can only remember 2 right now though.

the old man and the sea: sucked. i dont want to read about an old guy who went fishing...i dont like fishing...i dont like old guys.
scarlet letter: made me wish i was re-reading the old man and the sea, i stopped answering questions on the assignment after chapter 3, stopped reading it after chapter 5. it wouldnt have been so bad if .....if it was about something else completely.

To Kill A Mockingbird was a decent book. Far better than the other crap. Though Night was pretty moving.

I remember Flowers for Algernon. I think that was from jr. hs and I recall watching a movie version as well.

yeah, we read the book and watched the movie in 7th or 8th grade.

i liked watership down

Awww, did I inspire you with my post in yesterday's "would you double your intelligence" thread, or is this is scarily convinient timing?

And yes, I love that story. 😛

I liked:

A Farewell to Arms
A Tale of Two Cities
Wuthering Heights

I liked AFTA and WH so much I went out and bought myself personal copies. I wrote my research paper for AP English on Heathcliff and his dichotomy displayed in his simultaneous love and hatred.

I loved reading Lord of the Flies. Every graphic description of kids murdering each other brought such joy to my teenage brain. And then we saw the movie, and oh boy!

Really though, I dont think there were any books I really liked throughout high school except the ones I got from the library

The only book that I've ever not liked while reading it was Dracula. I guess I expected so much more from it, but I was bored to death (seriously, I only had to read a page or two before it knocked me to sleep).

To Kill a Mockingbird was pretty cool. I didn't mind any of the others, but wasn't really infatuated with them either.

Of course, at the time, my friends and I just said they sucked and made fun of them (like when Lenny sees the giant rabbit or when he tossed the puppy in Of Mice and Men).

I enjoyed the books I read for enjoyment much better, but that was the reason I read them, not because I had to for school.
