New 10gig does not come with either a remote or carrying case. Size wise, they are all about same and feature havent' changed either. Overall, I am dissappointed with this whole new line up of iPod. They have very little extras compare to the old ones.

wtf? Aren't they a lot lighter and slimmer now?

Did some 'audiophile' tell you this or are you basing this purely on the size of the amp (100 mW vs 60 mW)? Several factors are going to have a hand in sound quality, and because I own both, I'd say I can't hear a difference, especially with mp3s.

A real audiophile will never comment on sound quality based on numbers (as I think you are alluding to in your post). The truth is only in the hearing, numbers can only serve as gross generalizations. Of course in the whole grand scheme of things mp3 is as low as you can get. One nice thing about the iPod and having 20 GB of space is that you can rip straight CD 44.1 khz/16bit and store a reasonable 30+ albums worth of music at full CD quality. I've also heard that the iPod analog circuitry is pretty decent for a portable, so it could be a very good option for someone who cares about sound quality on the go. Personally, my quality listening is reserved for my home.

How long will what last? Are you talking about the old iPods which SOLD OUT days ago?

As for the Zen. I reckon it is over twice the size (by volume) of the old iPod and about twice the weight. That's significant in my book.

i was at the burbank store yesterday, they had them. i just dont know how long

Get the Zen at Best Buy, get the replacement plan... and upgrade to an Ipod a year or two from then. Just say the headphones wore out on you.

My school is selling the old 10G one for $229, but the new one is only $40 more.

Thinking if I should get one....

After checking out what the "new" versions had, I went ahead and just ordered my "old school" 10gig iPod from Amazon for $249. Doesn't seem to have much going for it to justify the major price increase IMHO.

BTW, the "older" 10gig iPods weigh in at 6.5oz while the "newer" ones weigh 5.6oz and are about .16 thinner (height and width are still about the same).
