Of course the HD can be reformatted and reused.
Is the old HD & OS from an OEM (HP, Dell, Lenovo, Gateway, etc)?
Or is the OS a retail version for which you have the install media as well as product key code?

Is the old HDD SATA or PATA? Will the new mobo accommodate either or both?

Yes it from an oem pc. I wanna kno if I can take it out and install it my new rig, and have windows 7 up and running. Sata connection btw.

The odds are it will result in a BSOD. That's the worst thing that can happen. It's worth a shot and go from there.

odds are it won't bluescreen, but most likely it won't activate.

Thanks for the input. Since I dont want a bsod, ill be getting a Samsung 830 120gb ssd and Windows 7 pro 64 bit.
