Old Guys and the Goatee: What's up with that?

I've had one since I was about 19. It alternates between full beard and goatee, but it's always there.

It's an effective way to make a wide face look longer. Mens' faces tend to look wider as they age, as the jowls get more pronounced.

Had mine since age 30 or so as well. I keep it rather tight and cleaned up these days but it used to be a wild-man look like Jesus/Manson with the long hair. Nowadays the head is shaved but the goatee remains.

Its an attempt to distract attention from a fat face. Heavy-set younger guys do it too (and it fools no one).

Wow...all the attacks to older men about trying to hide something.

I think it's mostly about many have found their niche and are done with full-time grooming.

I don't like facial hair for the most part, but at times I have done the goatee and even a Fu-Man-Chu beard (which got a ton of complements and attention, however; from the type of crowd I can't deal with day to day, but like to 'vacation' too).

it's a 80s to 90s fad that some people stuck with.

they may also have sweet tribal tats that also cannot get rid of.

one of those things that are like ,"I'm a CPA, but dammit I ride a Harley and I'll F you up!"

I could grow a decent goatee, but I cannot grow a full beard on the cheeks.

So you also have that, alot of people who can't grow a full beard will grow a goatee and it has nothign to do with "fads"

Also...some look pretty good with them.

I started around 30. However I started shaving my head as well when I started to go bald. The goatee sort of balanced it out without going full out mountain man.

When your Head hair starts falling out, grow it on your face...

/shrug It's a look

I've had a goatee a few times since I was in my mid 20s. I usually tire of it after a few months and start going clean shaven again.

Goatees are definitely better than the stupid mustache and beard fad that idiots are latching onto right now.
