Old games & autoplay

I dont know why but with older games, autorun takes ages to start. I dont mean like 20 secs i mean it takes 5 minutes and up, usually about 10 mins. By this time ive given up on whatever game im trying to install/play and then the autorun screen will pop up. Why? Think i asked this before but i never got an answer. This is specifically old game related. Perhaps a windows XP issue? Anyone else had this problem??
