So the Stronghold 3 thread got my head thinking of a game I played many, many years ago, I'm thinking it's ~20 years ago, maybe 15ish.

But it was called something like Stronghold, but all the searches on google aren't the game I'm thinking of.

Best I can describe the game was you had an overview of some random land, which could have different terrian. Map was sectioned into "squares" which you could move around. You'd build a keep (castle) and have multiple choices for building your city. You could build specific structures for dwarfs, elfs, humans and halflings. You needed dwarfs to mine at available mining spots, humans were your mages, elfs were all archers and halfings were little theif types (dwarfs were warrior, melee only).

Now you didn't have direct control over what the people did, you could only direct them in a general sense. You could specifically build what you wanted, but they would wander to wherever they wanted on their own accord. You needed atleast 1 person in a square to build any new buildings in that square.

The enemies were scatter around the map randomly and had their own bases. These types ranged from medusas, mino's, dragons, worms etc. Some were highly aggressive and walk far from their home to attack your city. As your city grew your people ranked/leveled up. You had to build armories, fletchers and academy type buildings to properly equip your town. As specific people fought they leveled up and became more powerful. You'd have to hope your high level guys were near where attacks were taking place to defend your city.

City density could be improved by upgrading farms and houses to hold and feed more people. The goal was to destory all the other enemy or monster bases on the given map.

Anyone have any idea or heard of this game and what it might be called?

I swear it was called Stronghold, or Strongkeep... Something like that. It was always a 2D view execpt looking at the map which was top down and that was just for changing your given view. Also the game was pretty buggy as for some reason it would randomly forget or just erase people, so if you had a high level guy at an outpost he'd just disappear, not die. This was a huge issue because if no one was present at a given location your buildings started to decay and would not be in use.

Ideas?

Edit - LMAO, I found it via image search, it was called Stronghold.

Yikes this game didn't hold up to my imagination! Very clumsy controls, forgot about that.

Yeah, nostalgia. Texashiker should take a look at this thread to better appreciate the games that are released today.
