old DSM vs old GT 5.0..

I would probably get the lx 5.0 over the DSM. AWD + FI is a lot more to go wrong and the parts are going to cost more. Although if you want to make it fast your Mustang is going to be FI eventually anyway, but I imagine it will still be a cheaper overall ownership experience.

When I see people post stuff like this, it makes me discount the rest of his post completely. I don't know anything about DSM cars, but now I'm inclined to think that msot everything KokomoGST said is wrong.

Do you even know what an SVO is?

Yes, and with todays technology, you can build up an SVO into a drag beast. It's lighter than a DSM with less drivetrain loss... don't believe me? Fine... I've seen a few HEAVILY modified & worked SVOs run at Englishtown and blow the doors off nearly everything. My friend and I know a guy that runs 10s on only 22psi of boost with a motor/turbo built to take up to 40psi...

It seems hard to believe in a day and age where the 302 ruled the Fox body Mustang that a car produced only 3 years with 2.3L of displacement, 4 cylinders, and a turbo goes deep in the 9's and hits 8's like it's a normal occurance. You make it sound like SVO's are a dime a dozen - you would be lucky to find one in good shape, and even luckier to find it for cheap. It's almost like - why bother trying to build up the 2.3 when you can buy any number of engines that would fit a Fox body and slap in a blower/turbo.

I've had many friends with both cars and have had my hand inside each many times. It really just depends on your style. DSM's handle great stock and if you live in up north, have fun driving a fast mustang in the snow. Parts are generally more expensive for DSM's but they tend to be more reliable.

My friend has a DSM with 170k on stock drivetrain, spent ~$1200 for the car and ~$1200 for used parts(big 16g, elec. boost controller, catless exhaust) and runs 12.9et in the quarter. The biggest pro about his car is driving ~90mph on the highway is quiet and smooth. I've been in low mileage 5.0's that creak and rattle with 50k. The build quality is much better even though the DSM's where built in the US too.

On that note, I'm looking for a AWD DSM for pizza delivery 😀

The DSM will go faster cheaper but I bought an 89 5.0l coupe. The DSMs look like a real pain in the butt to work on and it seems like you have to do that a whole lot 🙂.

Don't get a GT. The LX versions look better and weigh less with the coupe being the best out of all of them. They are a bit harder to find and some people seem to think they are worth a lot more then they really are.
