Oh the memories...

Before my teens, I had this IBM PCJr, with the game CASTLE on a 5 1/4 floppy. Awesome little game, it was command line based, and you moved a little character around with the cursor keys. The "graphics" were all generated by a simple ascii set, your guy as well as the monsters were a single ascii character. You would collect treasures and would have to solve puzzles. There was also a secret alternative ending that involved find a wizards staff via a hidden room.

Anybody know what I'm talking about? It was just a simple dos game, where can I find this?

Guys, if you wanna play it in a DOS window on WinXP......
Change all the files to NOT be READ-ONLY
It works fine then. :)

Ok, for those interested, I got it working right in Windows XP.
Goto http://www.dosgames.com/essential.php and download DosBox and Moslo
Copy the castle folder to C:\Castle
install Dosbox and copy the moslo.exe file to C:\Castle
run Dosbox and type 'Mount C C:\Castle'
type C:
type 'Moslo Castle.exe'
It works fine for me this way. Good luck
I should also note that the save and load are messed up. Do not use them.

My hero :cool::gift::wine:

the question is, will it work in XP dos emulation... this was a PCJr. :p

Castle was one of the first versions on which games like Hack (which later became Nethack) were based on.
Have played Rogue too, which came before Hack still. And played Moria and Angband a lot.

You HAVE to be 13 to consider wolfenstein old.

You HAVE to be 13 to consider wolfenstein old.

Or you'd have to know that Wolfenstein first appeared on the Apple Macintosh about 20 years ago.

To make gameplay more realistic, make a dos boot disk, then install the game on a second disk, and be sure to switch disks before playing. :)

I couldn't get the game to work under WinXP (though I didn't try very long). I just did the above trick out of necessity.

did you manage to unzip it?
it gave me that error to. Put it on a boot disk, and play it in dos. It will work there.

Same thing happened to me when I played Everquest, I could never beat it. :(

;)

Well now you have it, beat it! I bet I could recreate this game with a few enhacements and run it through web pages. I bet a site like that would become quite popular. :D

SagaLore, did you get the game to work? I could only get it to run in actual Dos (using a Win98 CD to boot)

I'll have to do that later. But thank you very much for providing that for me. :)
