old device can only use wep what can i do?

So I have a small home network I like to keep pretty secure. My router and 95% of my hardware are capable of using wpa2, but I am still stuck with an old linksys adapter that is only capable of using wep.

What would be best wireless security option be? Put the whole network on wpa2 and get a separate access point that uses wep? I am trying to get ideas on how I should proceed.

Yes, the best way is to either get rid of the WEP device or bring up an AP for only that device and MAKE SURE to put a firewall up between the WEP AP and the rest of your network because WEP is so easily crackable.

If you want and your router can run it, DD-WRT can run multiple AP's with different securtiy settings off of one router.

Assuming that there is some reason that prevents you from getting another Wireless card.

Access Point sits on the same Network if you use static IPs for the Access Point and the computer that connects to it you have to Ban these IPs on all other computers' software Firewalls (or in the router if it has such capacity) from local traffic.

You can also do this and put the WEP as the first Network.

No other blocking is then needed but every time you need to open a port you will Have to do it through two Routers.

Unfortunately another network card would be very costly. The device in question is a wet54g v.2 (wpa was introduced until v.3) on an old modded xbox that needs to be wireless. I may give the hardware firewall and ap a try since I have spare desktop and ap's can be found cheap. I will then just ban all ip's coming through the wep ap except for the xbox.

If you're going to buy an AP, then why not get one that is flashable to DD-WRT, and then set up client bridge mode, giving your wired xbox wireless access to your main AP.

You can buy a router and use it as a workgroup bridge for like 20-30 bucks. Do it.

I see WPA support mentioned in the firmware release notes for the V2. Check your version and try flashing it with the last firmware.
