I have a second computer, which has these specs

BCM VP1541 Motherboard (ALI M1541/1543C AGP/PCI/ISA Chipset (Aladdin V))
AMD K6-2 500 MHz at 100 FSB
Leadtek Geforce 2 MX 32 Meg Card (Not 200 or 400)
3x256 PC100 RAM (2 Micron chips from Dell, one i think generic, all 3 are rated at PC133)
OLD Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16 ISA
3com b905 Network 10/100 card
Philips 8x4x32 CDRW
Acer 32X CDROM
Running Windows XP Professional

Here is the link for my motherboard

Not sure what other info I need to have. I have the Ram Latency at 2.

This computer should be pretty fast for normal applications, but Counter Strike is unplayable even at 640x480. OpenGL does not work in CounterStrike, says something like I have a wrong version of OpenGL. I can only play in Direct3D and it is very slow. I have no idea why it is this slow. My cousin has a P400 with a Radeon LE and about 192 megs of RAM and his computer seems much faster than mine. Can someone help me out here.

I cant even break 1000 pts in 3dMark 2000. Forget about 3dmark 2k1.

what drivers are you using for your GeForce2 MX card? If you haven't already, use the windows xp update to get the 23.12 drivers, which most likely will let you use openGL. also, FWIW, i could never play any of the half-life based incarnations in D3D...it always ran crappy.

thanks for the help, but i have tried those drivers as well as the latest leaked and the official ones from Nvidia which surprisingly are not certified.

im not sure but i think there is some kind of hack or something, that slows your frames down.. i have a Gforce 256 and i can only play in D3D with good graphic but is slower then GL, GL works too but i get vid problems with the HUD display, it shows blocks for the time and amount of money i got and stuff but runs faster. but back to the prob

one day i was playing CS at 60-80FPS in D3D, i pissed off the guy that owned the server. well the next time i got on his server my frames where about 30-50FPS, i was pissed... the thing is it wasnt like that on all the servers, only a couple that i played on.

BUT...... this is only my hypothesis, i have nothing to base this on. no proof and no facts other then the situation i told u about.

i know this would be a pain, but try reinstallin Half-life, works for me every time... but i got tired of that crap and now play safe and almost hack freeeeee Diablo 2(*in the realms)

thanks for that suggestion, but my problem is not just on counterstrike, but just half life itself, even sinple player

was ur comp always like that or just after upgrading to winXP?

i have a feeling that the 500mhz old skool AMD chip with WinXP means chewed up resources.

😎 Try the 21.83 drivers, they worked for me in d3d in half life and quake 3. I'm running win98 though, which may make a diference.
