Old Cheap notebooks!

I'm looking for an older cheaper notebooks....all i need it for is word processing and internet/email( so pentium 1 or 2 etc is fine) .
Is it worth looking at those sold on Ebay (range of $150-600) ?
Also i was wondering if network cards(wired and wireless) would work on these old notebooks .
Anyone with advice ?

Thanks

ThinkPad 600E (Pentium II) or 600X (Pentium III) might be good. Network and Wireless cards should work ok with either of them.

what price range and hardware if any are you looking for?
Depending on what you have in mind I played with one of these for a while
pretty cool little thing depending on your needs.

can be found cheaper

Are those I 1300 series ThinkPads related to the I 1400? I have a friend who had an I 1400 and she said it was nothing but trouble.

I have owned two in the i series, one 1300 and one 1400. I had nothing but a good experience with them. Great laptops IMO.

i'm applying to law school for next fall and am looking for something cheap and light that can be taken to class and the library. I've seen the averatec and it looks interesting, but is still a tad out of my price range. I'm just looking for a hyped up word processor since i have a home system already. I'm also looking into a nice pda and keyboard.

edit-refurb is fine

it will probably be around $500 to $700. More and more a pocket pc and foldable keyboard seem really appealing, but...

For under 5 pounds it's gonna get tricky. The I series won't make it. The only IBM's that will are the T40 and X31 (these are new). The i series 1300 is 5.9 lbs. You may look at Sony (these usually go for a premium) or Fujitsu.
