come on guys, the ops post stated he was giving hs machine to his wife and he is not really looking for more performance, but was curious how things have changed in a year (you all that computers age faster than dogs so 1 of our years is like 15 computers years). think of what will be out a year from now? m2 will already by on the way out probably, intel will have another new skt out, pci-e will be the only gpu option, 4ms lcds will be "slow", hdds...who knows, but we will still have floppies.

i use to upgrade about every 12 mos, but since i got my 2.8c and am not doing hardly any video editing i have no reason to upgrade the cpu that often anymore.

my old upgrade line was - 450MHz amd k62 -> 750MHz athlon -> 1GHz Athlon (i know this one doesn't mak sensne but the f*cking c0ps confiscated my 750MHz rig... :( ) -> XP2000 -> 2xP3 1GHz -> Current rig about 1.5 yrs ago. i would usually wait until i could get a 50-75% increase in speed and to get that now i would need a 4.2GHz-5.6GHz, but i don't need the extra speed in the cpu dept, gpu is a different story :)

I'm suprised anyone gave him any decent advice after that. Shoulda just told him that pentium EE's with SLI 7800's were the norm these days, there's no point in being nice to an asshole.
