Old 386's and 486's

I am just curious as to what speeds those old processors ran at. I used to have one many years ago when I did not do much computing. I gave it away and now I wish that I still had just to open it up and look inside. Any information I would apprieciate.

I believe
386's were 10 - 40 MHZ
486's 16-150MHz

The 486 topped out at 100MHz (486DX100), but it's performance roughly matched that of the original Pentium running at 60MHz.

Intel 486 topped out at 100mhz while others went higher than 100mhz. During the time of the 386 and 486 AMD actually had licensed the rights to produce 486 and 386. AMD actually produced chips that were slightly faster than the intel counterparts. I believe AMD maxed out at 120mhz, not sure about cyrix though.

The fastest 486 proc that came from Intel was the 486DX4 100 that easily overclocked to 120.

The fastest 486 proc that came from Amd was the 5x86 133 (pretty much a 486 133) that was easily overclockable to 160 MHz at the time. It's performance was pretty much that of an Intel Pentium 75 and it was enough for me to play Quake original on my Hercules Dynamite 128 2MB video card at 512x384 at about 15 fps.
