Wow that picture really puts things into perspective.

Seriously, you fucks, stop joking about this and stop using it as a cheap stupid basis to make fun of the President. This is a catastrophe and you should be ashamed of yourselves. If I were a mod I'd perma-ban anyone who joked about this.

I was living in Oklahoma City (stationed at Tinker AFB) for the catastrophic tornadoes on May 3, 1999. Unless you've seen the devastation these huge tornadoes can wreak you almost can't imagine it. My thoughts and prayers go out to my friends there and their families.

The tornadoes just missed my in-laws on Sunday.

I also was at Tinker back in 97 and I've been through Moore several times while I was in the area. I can't believe the devastation.

thank you for the words of maturity. it gets lost on atpn and atot.

this is horrific. this is what we all drilled for as little kids in school.. all of those thoughts you had about it came true today. its so sad 🙁

Are you sure? It was posted in the Moore tornado thread in ATOT today.

This one is definitely Moore:

Yes, here is something from 2011 with the same bottom photograph.

Though I can't confirm 100% that the photo is Joplin it is most certainly not of the tornado that happened today.

Growing up in rural Texas a tornado was my biggest fear. There was no place for my family and I to take refuge from it. After Jarrell in 1997 and Moore in 1999 I wanted to move as far away from tornado alley as possible.

My heart goes out to those in Moore, I hope those that made it through can pick up the pieces and look ahead in life, and to those that didn't make it :rose;.

To whomever said thank your grandparents for building there, if you watch any news, you will see Oklahomans helping each other, not bitching about the governments lack of aid to help, you don't see that everywhere. When Katrina and sandy hit, you see people crying on tv begging Obama to help, in Oklahoma you see John boy on his tractor going to help his neighbor clean up and rebuild. Sorry that some people are to ignorant to remember helping each other, go back to being non social, Oklahomans will take care of each other, and the national news won't cover this for more than a week, whereas we are still hearing about other disasters that aren't cleaned up years later.

I can't believe you numbnuts see this as an opportunity for political jabs. This is a tragedy 🙁 Just complete devastation, it's hard to imagine.

I've made a donation to the red cross. If you can afford it, think about doing the same, there are going to be a lot of people that need help to recover from this.

Any politician who tries to use this to push some political bullshit has permanently lost any chance for my monetary support and vote, I don't care what letter is behind their name.

This thread is prima facie evidence that P&N is a giant septic tank in desperate need of a good cleanout.

I cleaned this up some. Removed jokes and some responses; inappropriate political comments and excessive profanity.

Please keep it about the disaster. Be a jerk in some other thread.

Thank you. This is a horrible tragedy. A lot of people died, many of them children. We are lost as a society if we can't take a few minutes to set aside partisanship to show a little basic humanity. For at least one thread, our hearts and minds should be on those who died, their families and loved ones, and all the people in the area who are suffering.

Kind of a ridiculous post, wouldn't you say? As a New Yorker, plenty of people were helping each other out during Sandy. It happens to get a lot of attention because a lot of people happen to live in the Northeast.

Regardless of where you are, people help each other out in natural disasters. It's a tragedy when disaster hits, but we can all come together and work to rebuild.

Apparently you can't either:

I highly disagree that politics shouldn't be talked about here.

Also, coming from the guy who mistook an onion-style news story for an actual news story, you have a lot of balls (and little brains) to call someone out for not being able to read.

Argue with the admins then.

Apparently Phokus can't fekin read.

He can, he just can't resist a chance to spew out his left-wing hate. I hope the atpn admins clean up his post.

Back on topic. My wife and I watched this unfold most of last night. What a horrible tragedy. My heart goes out to these people. Can't even imagine the anguish the parents are feeling right now waiting for word on their kids. 🙁 On a plus side for smart local government, it was a great idea that people had to register their storm shelters so that local authorities know where to look after a disaster like this.

Allisolm said 'inappropriate' political comments. Now, she may disagree with whether or not my comment was inappropriate or not, but i believe it's very appropriate and very relevant. The citizens of OK didn't give a damn about the north east when we had our own disaster. We could throw a hundred billion dollars at them and they still wouldn't learn a single lesson. That's why i think they should get nothing.

There is nothing political about a tornado. There is nothing political about the dead children. The citizens of Oklahoma didn't hold up funding for the northeast and so you saying they 'didn't give a damn about' it IS completely inappropriate. Keep your zero sympathy out of this thread.

Wasn't really directed toward all of the Northeast, I apoligize for coming off that way. I just remember NJ turning away help due to dumb labor contracts, then showing people calling out Obama for not helping. I know there are good people in all areas, I have lived in many regions of the US, but living in the midwest, you see a tight knit group of people who are more willing to help each other than anywhere I have experienced. To the individual saying your tax dollars shouldnt help OK. , fine we will make it through this, god bless.

20 some kids dead in that school and theyre still looking for survivors all over the place. my heart is in oaklahoma today 🙁
