Oklahoma earthquake (5.6)

.. first time I every have much of anything to post that isn't complete bollocks, and the forums were down last night. :awe:

Oklahoma Earthquake

CNN

We're in the North Texas area. My daughter and I were watching SNL last night, when the house picked up this ever-so-slight shimmy. I've felt similar when the washing machine hits a harmonic and starts rocking, or we have *really* strong wind gusts - just a barely-perceptible back-n-forth motion. We couldn't figure out what it was and it only lasted a minute at most.

I did walk outside and still feel it a bit, but I wasn't sure it wasn't just my imagination at that point.

Anyway, cool, starry bra and whatnot..

We felt something around 11ish, the entire house was vibrating for about ten seconds. Strangely, the cats didn't seem to care at all until things started rocking enough to make noise.

I live in N. Texas too, and slept right through it! :whiste:

If this were LA, they would have been running out into the streets, screaming and carrying on......and every one of them would have their cell phone in hand! 🙄

Glad you-all are okay. I turned on the radio late last nite to listen to the traffic report because I had to drive some folks back to Brooklyn; there was a quick one-line report about Earthquake in Oklahoma and then they went on to Other News. They never said anything more about Earthquake and I was curious.

Did your lawn furniture fall over?

Ok North American Plate, what the hell's going on here? You're one big plate. Keep it together, man!

The last report I heard said one guy had gone to a hospital because of it. He hit his head on a wall while trying to run out of his house. 🙄 Other than that, I think just a handful of buildings had any real damage.

So...if Oklahoma falls into the ocean...will it PLEASE take Tex-Ass with it?

I'll do what I can 😉

Really? 5.6? I live about 30 mi. from the San Andreas Fault, and shaker that magnitude would likely not make the 6 o'clock news, which around here reports when kids fall off their trikes. Deal with with, Oklahoma.

Are you kidding me? Or are you really this ignorant?

You think you, in TEXAS, know anything about earthquakes?

Jesus, you're quite the douchebag.

As a resident of CA, let me say that every earthquake over 3.0 is reported ad nauseum on the news here. A 5.6 in a place that isn't built for earthquakes certainly can be a big deal.

1989 - Loma Prieta earthquake hits San Francisco Bay Area, magnitude ~7. I was in Oakland when it happened.

1993 - Guam (USA territory) gets hit with a magnitude 8.1 earthquake. I was there.

1996 - Adak, Alaska (about 2/3 of the way out, in the Aleutian Islands chain) gets hit with a 7.7 earthquake, followed the next morning by a 7.2 aftershock. I was there.

FOUR major earthquakes I've lived through. Anything else you'd like to say?? 🙄
