I'm loading up Farcry right now, and I'll put this dam thing to rest on my 7800GT's. I'll take a screenshot at 4xAA/16xAF and then another with TRAA on too for another comparason. Those shots just don't look right to me. The X1900 has some kind of "unfair" advantage in those pics cause I never remeber it looking like that when I use to play it on my 7800GT.
But if the screenshots are right, then the X1900 kicks some serious @$$ :p

Yah, it looks like these shots were rigged to make the X1900 look good or something, AA doesn't seem to be on at all on the 7800 GTX 512, in the 7800 GTX 512 shot, the shadows are different.

I don't know about the water, the X1900 water looks to busy when you get out to farther distance, and the 7800 GTX is not busy enough, I would like something more along the lines of in the middle.

That is taking using my 7800GT's with FRAPS at 1280x1024 with 8xS/16xAF (we can dream right? :p). I have TRSS ON and the image quality is on high quality. And as always all the games settings are on max.

P.S. And sorry for the bad jpeg compression but I have yet to get good old photoshop installed to use that to compress the BMP's I also took.

Edit: And what do ya know, my pic LOOKS THE SAME as the X1900 pic :D
Guess the thing was rigged or something...

Ratchet is a good reviewer. He was the one brought up the drawing distance issue with HL2 (the nvidia cards show more than ati cards) in his review while none of the other reviewers noticed it. Try asking him directly before slamming him for bias.

As some have pointed out, with the water and other issues aside, the x1900xt pic looks a bit more "crisp" than the 7800GTX. This is exactly what I've found when doing a real life comparison of a x1800xt vs a 7800GTX KO card in BF2 and CS:S both at 1920x1200 and similar settings. The Ati card seems to show a sharper image where as the nvidia card seems a bit blurry. Nothing highly noticeable but if you're sensitive to IQ and have them side by side you can tell.

HDR is not enabled by default. To enable it, open the console and type in \r_HDRRendering #, where # is some number between 1 and 12, I think. The number determines how bright the HDR efect looks.

can you do 4xaa at 2048x1536 for a better comparo?

as for iq, it looks like bot water effects seem a bit overdone but the ati is still more so.both now have that repeating tile water effect. as for texture filtering, the ati still looks more sharp but that might be due to better jpeg compression or the difference in resolution.

Sorry but my monitor can't do over 1280x1024. I'll see if I can get my 17in. CRT out and MABY I can do 1600x1200 on that thing, but thats as close as your going to get.

I have the uncompressed BMP's and the jped compression does alter the picture a bit. I'll see if I can do a side by side comparason and upload that.

I'll post up a few screenshots at 1920x1400 (the most my monitor can do at a tolerable refresh rate).

Due to size (.bmp image compressed with 7-zip - maximum quality jpegs with color subsampling disabled are not much smaller) I'll place them on rapidshare.de

First one here

Will edit post as further uploads complete.

We only need a screen shot though Gstanfor, so if your monitor can do 2048x1536 at any refresh rate, then you can take a picture, quickly before the low refresh rate starts to hurt your eyes too much.

I'm not on my gaming computer now but can take a few tonight, as I normally use that resolution anyway. I tried out the game earlier today though and my water looks like it does in the ATI shot (it's on ultra quality).

It's only a 19" monitor (a damn good one, but still only 19") and I can't do 2048x1536 on it, sorry.

Last pic from me is online.

Allright that's a good idea, would like to get to the bottom of this to see if Nvidia really does have this IQ issues.

I very much doubt that. Rage3D would not make a mistake of that nature.
It appears they very much have; either that or there was a driver issue with the version they were using.

Can you post the screenshot of what you are talking about?
Already done by others.

Something is definitely wrong with the nVidia screenshot. I've just tried mine and it looks like the ATi screenshot (7800GT, 81.98 drivers). I have visible ripples in the second lagoon while the nVidia screenshot shows none.

I suspect Ultra Quality water is not being used in the game for the nVidia card and is instead at a lower setting.

I very much doubt that.

even the pro's make mistakes, and its very easy to do with so many variables.
