Okay, this is veganism gone too far

"Our pets are our children, and we have to use the information at our disposal to make the best decisions for them."

Cats are another story. They're obligate carnivores, which means exactly what it sounds like: They must eat meat. Vegan cat food includes synthetic versions of the meaty nutrients cats need, such as the amino acid taurine (lack of which causes blindness in cats).

Seriously wtf. I know dogs need some plant matter in their food and my parents feed their dog a raw food diet consisting of raw meat mixed with vegetables, but to go all VEGAN? What? Cats HAVE to eat meat in order to live.

"Those who feel a vegan cat goes against nature [the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, for one] might rethink a pet's potential footprint before acquiring one," Mr. Greenberg writes. "A carnivore, be it a cat, a dog or a salmon, is a heavy burden for the environment.

A fucking animal is a heavy burden on the environment? I thought animals WERE the environment. Seriously, end yourself now.

People who think animals are people are ??.(redacted)

We once tried to adopt a dog; we were turned down because we were going to let it sleep outside?. Apparently that is abuse and animals were not meant to be outside. We were blacklisted from the adoption people because of that. She let us know she was going to call all her friends to let them know not to let us adopt.

No matter we found a couple of other shelter dogs that are happy to live with us.

What a MONSTER!
Everyone knows dogs hate being outside!

LMAO! I heard that!

This is fucking ridiculous though...do you think the cat/dog wants to eat all vegetables? I wouldn't think so...I mean, this is just pathetic. Plain and simple.

Yes, they should be...

These people are stupid. My wife's aunt is one of these people. she treats animals like people, better than most people, dogs, cats, birds, etc, at least. Get her near our snakes though and she's ready to kill. What a hypocrite.

Trying to turn a carnivore / predator into a vegan is ridiculous and a violation of the natural laws of the universe. How can these people possibly reconcile their beliefs with the natural laws of the universe? Do they think that the planet could somehow function with no animals eating animals? Prepare for global environmental collapse if that's your idea of utopia. Dumbasses.

If it wouldnt get you in trouble. You should have built a small house too small for the dog, take a pic, and send it to her to show you love your dog by not letting it outside!

Problem is a whackjob like that would have the humane society or ASPCA on your ass so fast it would make your head spin.

All we have to do is kill all the predators and the earth will be peaceful and perfect.

It's not substantially different than a vegetarian diet for pets, IMO. Both are terrible ideas that could easily kill your pet. Unfortunately, the AAFCO permits this bastardization of nutrition by allowing inadequate formulations. IIRC, all the food manufacturer has to demonstrate is that a cat food is "similar in nutritional content" as some other pet food. If the vegan diets were actually tested at length on pets, I really doubt they would pass.

Ugh - me thinks adoption agencies have overstepped their boundaries. I can understand if someone wants to adopt a pet who really can't take care of it - but geez... this is ridiculous. Pets have freaking hair all over their bodies - they are built to live outside. Hell - I guess animal control should stop by my house as a few of my pets CHOOSE to stay outside overnight...

Come to think of it - I'm not surprised to hear this. We tried to adopt a dog because she [the wifey] felt our dog was lonely. So we contacted the local pet adoption agency and setup a meeting between the pets. After interviews and watching how the pets reacted with each other [there was absolutely no problems] - they decided the dog would be better suited elsewhere simply because they thought the dog might be neglected [the dog was the only pet in the house from the previous owner]. Freakin eh - why didn't they tell us this in the first place so we could avoid all this crap?

I've heard stories up here in VT of crazy vegetarians not feeding their cats meat and then all the cats are walking around blind.

I guess I'll try to play devil's advocate even though I don't care one way or the other.

Why does anyone give a crap what other people do with their animals so long as it's not cruel. If the SPCA deems that the vegan food is just as nutritious, why does it matter?

It's not natural you say? Well, AFAIK, cows are naturally vegetarian and nobody has a problem with farmers feeding them a non-vegetarian feed.

But what about the plants!? They're living things too!

The only way to be safe is to maintain a strict diet of water, air and cloud cake (and moon cheese if you can get it). Be extra careful not to swallow any microscopic organisms, and remember to keep your tinfoil hat on at all times to maintain communication with the collective.
