Okay, so I just worked on my first ever BTX system.....

All of my keyboards and mice are ps/2. I have never seen a computer without them before either (except for laptops).

Makes sense... most people don't use PS/2, serial or parallel ports anymore.

most people still use ps2 ports.

If they're using the crappy $3 keyboard and mouse that came with their computer, yes.

PS/2 is old and inferior to USB. There's no point to wasting money supporting old standards. A lot of people still used ISA modems when they started doing away with those, but it was still a good move to get rid of it.

Is this really your first encounter with a system that has no PS/2 ports?

No, I've come up on Proprietary systems and those Dell and Gateway "mini" systems that only use USB. I'm saying this is the first time I've encountered this as a standard (I'm going with the theory that BTX eliminates PS2 and serial/parallel ports here).

as for serial ports being used, I know a lot of people who use diagnostic equipment in the field that uses serial ports, but a serial card is easy enough to add, no big deal.

And no PS2 ports is no big deal either, it just looks odd is all.

BTW, isn't it impossible to use F8 to get into safe mode with a USB KB? I've never been able to do it.

I use quite a few serial devices (that are new, and still being manufactured), and some of the apps I use require serial connections only. Fortunately I'm not so stubborn as to not give in to the Legacy Serial -> USB adapter.

I for one will not use a computer at home that doesn't have a ps2 port. I have to use my 15 year old compaq clicky keyboard or else.

... so buy a PS/2 -> USB adapter. No biggie. Been there, done that, many times.

No, it's not impossible.
