I dont game very often, but I want to be able to run games at high settings. I have an x800XTPE right now and I tried to play madden 2007 on my computer and found that it would hiccup ALL THE TIME, without even a high resolution.

I'd like to spend as little money as possible to do this, what would you guys recommend?

ain't that monitor a beauty? :D

anyhow, you'll probably need the one of the high-end vid card to properly run games at 1920x1200... i think any of the x1900xt, 7900gt or (if willing) 7950gx2 will suffice. with the x1950xtx coming out, the price on x1900xt may drop even further making it a great buy.. i've also read about (but have no exp) overclocking the 7900gt which also provides great value.

Yeah, I might just bite the bullet and do it once the 950 comes out...and snag a zalman cooler as well.

Another vote - X1900XT. If you play Oblivion - OMG. :Q There are times I just gallop around, marvelling at the scenery, textures, lighting, etc. They really did a good number on the graphics. Looks absolutely outstanding on a 2407WFP.

I have a x1900xt, and for some games it works at 1920x1200 (like prey) but others, not really. I have a pretty slow proccessor compared to it though (2ghz amd64 3200+ @ 2.2) so I might be bottlenecking it. Mine is not oc'd though, so if you have a nice PSU/aftermarket cooler/airflow I would just get a x1900xt and oc it to like 700+/1600+ for a nice performance boost.

Also, (I'm not a fanboy here) I really really hate ATI's drivers. They are horrible compared to Nvidia's, but this card is definitly a unique card and offers unbeatable performance. Either way, good luck and enjoy it :)

I also have the 2405FPW, and still using a 7800GTX which I bought last year, and defintely there are games where I can't max out the graphics details because the GPU is not up to the task @1920x1200. I also prefer to have high frame rate compared to high detail with low frame rate, so I have to compromise on the graphics quality settings. But X1900XT can handle all the newest games much better.

With the rig in my sig every game I have is very playable at max settings except for Oblivion anf FEAR. Oblivion has good frames 85% of the time but I get occasional dips into the low 20s or high teens. Luckily, Oblivion is a game where such low fps aren't that big of a deal. FEAR plays pretty well ~85% of the time too. I do get some slow down in areas though and, unfortunately, it's more annoying in this type of game. I play Oblivion at 1920x1200 4AA + HDR and maxed settings. FEAR I play at 1920x1200 with 2AA/8AF and maxed settings. So for 95% of the games out there an X1900XT will be great. The other 5% of games will require SLI or Crossfire to get max settings with good frames 100% of the time.
