Ok so currently I have Xbox, and I decided that consoles are awful and pc is bomb. However I literally know nothing about pc gaming. I want to build my own, that's all I know. I tend to really good with technology so I just need to know how build one. And I don't really have a budget because I am going to spend the year building it and I am going to buy the parts one at a time. Also I don't know what kind of monitor to use I know I can use my TV or something like that but can I use my laptop? I don't have a gaming laptop. I think its the Lenovo yoga 2 so I don't think I can use it for pc gaming. Anyways as you can probably tell I really don't know anything so any and all information and help would be wonderful, thanks.

Welcome to AT! The best thing for you is to go to General Hardware section and start a thread, with answers to the questions in the sticky titled "NOTICE - PC builders, when asking for input on YOUR projects Please Tell us..."

The only thing I will suggest is to save, then buy all at once. Although the PC industry isn't moving forward like it used to, there can still be noticeable advances from the beginning of the year to the end.

one thing you must decide ..generally you have a choice of two types of cpu`s and this will be the first thing to decide ,either AMD or INTEL..you want a cpu that is at least a quad core for gaming...intel being more expensive but i must say they make the better gaming cpu`s..if your budget is a little cramped go with amd will still be fine but mostly cheaper...

Very bad idea to buy parts one at a time. First, component prices tend to drop over time, so it makes more sense to buy when you need it rather than accruing over time.

Second, there is a small chance that the part is defective, and if you bought it several months ago, you probably won't be able to return it and instead have to purchase a replacement. And knowing Murphy, it will be the part that is just out of the RMA period. The only exception might be the case, since it should be obvious if there is a defect.

if you are a mad serious keen gamer then you will prolly want 2 video cards,or 3 depending on your chip "cpu" be careful with Intel they support different amounts of pcie lanes and configurations

ok your confused well it`s hard to describe ...the pcie lanes are divided by the combination of the cpu and the pcie slots on the mother board..
i suggest you look at the specs on whatever cpu you decide to get.there are a maximum designated set of 40 pcie lanes some chips only support 16 or 32..etc.. .

My advice:

Get the all the money > buy all the parts

The reason is if you buy a CPU today, in 6-12 months it will be outdated/cheaper, same with everything else.

In the mean time, research reviews/builds/forums/youtube on building a PC, there are very good information out there.
