Okay, Pre > iPhone

"First company ever to deliver that dial pad as part of the QWERTY keypad on a mobile phone."

I'm not sure about others, but I know the Samsung Saga has this too, and it's been out for a couple of months...

He didnt say the Pre was the first.. he said Palm was the first. Any previous Palm phone i have used (Treo) all had the dialpad on the keyboard. He is probably right, but im too lazy to confirm that

I'm pretty excited for the Pre, but as is usually the case, it's going to come down the responsiveness of the UI and how good the web browsing is. That's where all these supposed "iphone killer" devices have fell short.

Lack of app store?

I like the UI, this won't be an iPhone killer, even if it's technically a better phone that won't matter. But it does look like it should be the next best thing. RIM's Storm is horrible and the Samsung iPhone wanna be's aren't any better. Hopefully Palm will be able to get good 3rd party software support. When I log into the iTunes store and look at all the apps it blows my mind how many they have. I was never able to find even close to the selection for my WM 5 phone. Nobody will match Apple App store, but it should be interesting to see what Palm does with their app store. If this phone ever comes out for GSM I might have to pick it up. Looks infinitely better than my Motorola Q in every aspect. Should be easily better than every WM phone and the overrated Nokia N-series.

And stupid me I thistime last year I thought Palm was pretty much done for lol.

I know I, and a lot I know can't stand the tiny palm buttons. It looks like they're still tiny w/ no option for on screen keyboard. That will prevent it from being an iphone killer.

that's funny, the fact it has a keyboard option makes it more of an iphone killer to me. I do wish it were more like the G1. But yes, I don't think anything will "kill" the iphone. they changed the game, and it's going to be a few years of just improving on it.. nothing major. Just hopefully more options.

Maybe if they had physical buttons AND onscreen keyboard, or if they had the buttons in the landscape direction so they'd be bigger. The way it is now though is damn near unusable for me and my big hands.
