My g/f is taking a course that is going to cost her 1300 (which she doesn't have). She refused a loan from her parents... and she told me not to think about offering, which settled a could-be-diffucult situation that may have arisen.

Regardless... she needs to pay in about 1.5 months or so.. and she will be reimbursed by her work in 8 months... She planned on putting it on her CC which has a usurous(sp?word?) credit rate... is her best bet to put it on a CC and get a card with a 0% APR on BTs and no fees or are there cards that offer 0% APR for a year that she can apply for?

Is there a good site to find an optimal credit card?

Thanks!

college payment plan?

I know most universities around here have one.

0% interest vs high high credit card interest

I have seen credit cards that offer %0 on transfer balances for a year. So she can pay for it on a card she already has then apply for one of these %0 cards it will transfer with no iterest. then all she has to do is pay the minimum until she gets credited back from her job.

Avoid credit cards as long as you can. Since it's only an eight month period, can't she try for a loan or other kind of financial aid? If you talk to the financial aid office or the Bursar, they can guide you well.

If you absolutely must have a CC, go to http://www.bettercreditcard.com/

Let me get this straight:

1) She refuses to get a loan from anyone.
2) She wants to get a CC to get a loan.

I think she doesn't understand what a credit card is. A credit card is a loan. Nothing more, nothing less.

Tell her to get a student loan or a college payment plan. For example, my college would delay all charges until reimbursement money came in, free of charge and for as long as I needed (but only if I could prove the reimbursement was coming). I even did that once for a scholarship that was 1 month late in paying me. A simple talk with the university delayed my room and board bill (~$2000) for a bit over a month. Heck, have you even checked to see if her college allows CC payments (many don't) and if they do accept CC payments do they charge an arm and a leg for that service (many do)?

That said, $1300 isn't much at all, and there are numerous ways to get $1300 by the time the money is due.

If she already has a credit card, tell her to call that company. She should ask for a 0% interest rate, they may give it to her, or at least lower what she's got now.
